Portable browsers

G'day, Playing with several Portable Browsers (Chrome, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi) in a range of Pups (Bionic & ScPup), I'm finding when I try to download a file, the browser disappears/crashes (no message pops up). I haven't yet tried this starting from the terminal. Usually, it's the latest cryptic...

Browsers' caches

G'day, I see lots of files in browsers' caches that should be linkable from either /opt or /.root/config/(your browser profile directory). Locations of application caches often vary. Newer browsers seem harder to constrict to a few MB of cache, or they hide away the means to stop the cache growing. ...

Portable Brave

G'day, I've been trying Brave amongst the other Portable Browser versions in BionicPup64 and it does impress. Did not need to add the ublock-origin extension which is very needed in the other browsers. I just have to remember where the downloads go - Spot, not straight to my Downloads directory. Dav...

Firmware a.k.a. fdrv needed [SOLVED]

G'day ozsouth, I've tried your 5.4.8 kernel in a test BionicPup64 in place of its 4.19.23 kernel - switched vmlinuz and zdrv versions. Boots well and looks fine for most things. But no wifi access - my usb dongle requires several ath9k files which I imagine are not in the main puppy sfs nor your new...

LibreOffice - sharing config

G'day Mikes & Fred, Thanks for the replies to my query about LibreOffice. I'll try suggestions as I can understand them  . Minor breakthrough from Mike W.'s info about the numbered profiles in /root/config/: if more than one version is present on the system, it'll create numbered sub-direc...

Profile/config for LibreOffice AppImage?

G'day, Running an AppImage of LibreOffice-6.4 in BionicPup64s (various kernels) has been successful. Is there a way to import, or better link the profile in /root/.config from a 'normal' LibreOffice? This would keep my list of recent files and templates up-to-date regardless of which Pup and LibreOf...

LibreOffice & Gimp as AppImage/Portable

G'day Mikes, Thanks for the help. I did not easily find what the difference between a 'Fresh' and 'Still' Download is for LibreOffice so am trying the 'Fresh' . Conventionally, I'm running LibreOffice-6.4 in the 64-bit Pups (linked-sfs) which is fine in using my profile from earlier LibreOff...

Portable LibreOffice?

G'day Mike W.,

Is there a Portable version of a recent LibreOffice?

In going through my 64-bit Pups set-up to switch from sfs browsers to portable browsers, LibreOffice is another big package application that looks appropriate to be 'portable-d'?

And maybe Gimp?

BackUp Script "pupsave-back-2-tar"

G'day,

An updated/revised version of the hot-save-backup by forum member glene77is is here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=118076

It works for me in 32-bit and 64-bit Pups so far (desktop and laptop computers), and is a little quicker than the original hot-save-backup.

Bookmarks import problem

G'day, Thanks for the various suggestions but nothing I did fixed the absence of imported bookmarks. Oddly, deleting the bookmarks text file in the Default directory did not remove the few bookmarks of mine I added the 'normal' way (visit the site and click on the star icon). Mike W's suggestion abo...

Bookmarks import?

G'day Mike W., I'm trying your 64-bit Chrome Portable, which runs, but I cannot import my html file of bookmarks. Chrome seems to do the Import but when I then try to set up the 'imported' bookmarks, they are not there. Just the three default Google bookmarks. My non-Portable version of Chrome has t...

32-bit Vivaldi

G'day Mike W., [I've built & uploaded a 32-bit version, but I won't publish it unless there's a demand, since to my mind, it's not fully functional.] I use Vivaldi as my default browser in many 32-bit Pups (Viv. version 19... or 28...) depending on which Pup it is - Ubuntu-based or Slacko-based ...

Save-folders only backing up

G'day B. K. Johnson, Sorry for misleading you with my sloppy wording. I did not modify "their" ( :D ) script to back-up a save-file, just added a desktop file to their script package that had been written for backing up the Frugal's save-folder. I much prefer Puppies with flexible save-fol...

G'day glene77is, Thanks for the extended reply to my posts. The menu entry (.desktop file) would be helpful for Puppy newcomers. SFS works and in 64-bit

G'day glene77is, I've made an sfs of your 3 Backup Script files to load them into /usr/bin/ and then an sfs of the files as links to my data partition. The original three files are kept here, every other use now will be as links back to these original files. I also edited the .desktop file of the ol...

G'day glene77is, Thanks for this version of the very useful Hot-Save-Backup utililty. I'll try running it as a link from my data partition to /etc/rc.d/ and also in several 64-bit Pups which sometimes don't include the original Hot-Save-Backup. If all goes well, I'll make an sfs of your Backup Scipt...

G'day BK, Posting from Easy227 via OperaPortable. HP smallform desktop, vintage mid 2000's. Bootmanager problem with temp modules

G'day, I had this problem a while ago when new Ubuntu Pups were not loading my temperature module via BootManager. I vaguely recall reporting this in a Ubuntu-Pup thread. However I get around this now in all Pups by adding the appropriate "modprobe xxxxx" line into my /root/StartUp 'mount-...

Pet not sfs

G'day Flapup, If you can access the web only via the Package Manager from your Full Pup, go for a browser in the repository in a .pet form, not in the sfs format. Alternatively, if you already have a collection of full-unusable browser sfs files, can you create a Frugal Pup in the same partition as ...
