@greengeek I'm getting (sometimes) tired of answering the misleading arguments here in this thread, but you won't get away with it. > I do not agree with your belief that newer software is always more secure. If you are arguing against security updates, then it's like arguing against physics or vacc...

Files can be accessed without opening windows, and browser data can be stolen. > jamesbond I suppose it was me writing a P.M. to popcorn, not to use Puppy as main distro, which made him opening th...

All I hear is you re-iterating information from sensationalist internet magazines and other 'news' sites as if journalists have the handle on computer security. I got this specific information about Windows becoming much more secure while the last years, from a interview in a security podcast with ...

Puppy is the worst Linux distro I know, when it comes to security. It has no update mechanism for security updates, it doesn't tell you, and in the forum here you'll find some people with high self-confidence which tell you there is absolutely no need to be in sorrow. Problem is, they are wrong. Gnu...

@nic007: And once again your comment says much about how faulty you are and that you never had any argument.

@mikeb: I'm done here with arguing about security, just looking in here to correct false allegations against me. But I think I'm done now, it's just a waste of time here.

I proposed another flash player because of the user's old machine specifications. Of course you can run the latest software if your machine can handle it. And I wrote he may try the newest version, trying gnash, or not use flash at all if it's not running well on his machine, he may also follow you...

Such an attitude from a new poster. Maybe you should re-think your approach to how you engage with other posters on this forum. You deserve worse answers than you got from me, and I needed to hold myself back not to use problematic terms on you. I just helped someone to install the newest flash. Yo...

   > You are making a massive mistake by thinking that slightly older software renders ones system insecure. You can't judge that, cause your lack of basic security knowledge. It makes no sense to discuss this with you any further. You have to explain why known security problems in...

@nic007 Do what you want, but your reckless and irresponsible behavior can't be the standard. You have just no clue about computer security, or just don't care about it. Others may have more sensitive data on their PC or being more responsible about how their actions affect other users on the intern...

> ant-virus or anti-malware They seem not to be very useful, but security updates are! 1. My point is users should be informed at best about missing security in a OS, and helped if they wanna increase it. I just gave him the chance to try. What's the problem with that? 2. You can't know if your syst...

I find it shocking that most who talk about 'security' have absolutely no idea about what makes windows so insecure and that such mechanisms simply do not exist on other systems. I didn't say I'm an expert on security, but I know that Linux is also not completely secure and browsers can be attacked...

Yeah, then you need to turn it of or better deinstall it. He may try the newest version, or gnash, or get rid of it. If it's not important to have a secure machine, then he may try a old version. However, somehow I think the bottleneck will not be Flash but the videos he maybe wants to watch. If he ...

Oh, many sorry Johnny1993. I wasn't looking for your answer. Thought you are familar with Gnu/Linux - Unpack it somewhere, open the data in a window - Open /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins in another window - Then copy libflashplayer.so into that folder - Close the window to where you copied it - Other wind...

I think your question was if the most current version is running on your machine. I don't know, but I would try. I was using it on old machines and it worked, if they were not to old. Otherwise turn it off. At least you should have your browser run as spot if using an old insecure version. If files ...

Raspis are there for learning and hacking, Raspian works well for that, cause it's more or less Debian which is also used on many servers. Puppy handles to many things in a special way, it's not the best system to learn about Gnulx. The good thing about Raspberry PI is also to have one hardware sold...

I only used: chmod o-rwx and chmod g-rwx, and reversed with +
on all files and dirs directly in /root/
I did nothing with 's' or 'S', and nothing with owner permissions.

Yeah, nice idea. Problem is, I didn't change any files inside of spot, except maybe changing permissions. But I could change them again. But I think now this is not the problem at all, cause these files are all owned by spot and root can access everything. I think firefox needs access to sth. in /ro...
