Yes changing defaults is a bit of a puzzle. Problem was that the default font was too small for these old eyes. I wonder if squinty vision was developed by bill G. Perhaps MS devs did not notice monitors getting bigger. One of the joys of linux is usually nice smooth readable text. I am allowed an m...

The is usually a setting to block third party cookies too. Google have not wandered into my banks waving the flag of 'security' yet. Indeed https is shielding their activity...after all cookery recipes don;t really need all that encryption. Like a certain virus ...be aware, learn what you can and im...

serious mp4 playback eh...... ye olde technology. :D Streaming a web video is not rocket science in itself. The symptoms you describe sound like ram filling up.... either the ramdisk or directly. There is much to cause this on the web (javascript and excessive css) now and may not necessarily be the...

The hosts approach is neat, avoids the problem with https and routers and is good for linux and...

I suffered a HP2133 for some time. Here are some random accumulations https://www.dropbox.com/sh/14ydqfonpdwee78/AABa3dx1vbnFdf-vrejMCHN0a?dl=0 You may notice these were used on puppy 4.12 and lucid. Support for the via chipset is abysmal though i eventually did get 3d video working. Broadcom wifi w...

Being bombarded with documents due to sons a level studies and softmaker handled multimedia better than same era libreoffice.

Hardware decoding of h264 and other formats in the video card is the major boost... hence why cheap smartphones manage ok...computers and TVs merge.....
I have a pent 3 from 2000 that plays games and emulators really well thanks to an nvidea card doing all the work for example.

Hm. Interesting; I never thought of that. So; can you delete the 'planmaker'/'presentations' stuff out of the shared freeoffice directory in /usr/share, use just the 'textmaker' /usr/bin entry, and run it as a dedicated, standalone word-processor? Yes each is a self contained binary blob... very li...

The truce is that one upon a time I too did try to join a movement on holding up this stupidity with software. I did fail, got no where. Anti engineering. CB radios used to be sold on weight rather than the quality of the electronics.... computers seem to have gone down the same path like those sev...
