A strange thing just happened which I thought I'd mention. I had been using Firefox version 45.0, the only problem being that for some reason it tried to open at some site ending in ...qaba.com, which I couldn't find any info about on the internet with my ISP reporting that it couldn't find the site...

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Have now downloaded and am running version 45.0. That should be good for a while.

Thanks for the info.

Firefox no longer updating in Lucid 5.2.8.6

Hi, It's been a while since I used Lucid 5.2.8.6 because the old laptop I used to use it on broke. I have just bought another identical old laptop so am using Lucid once again. :) I used to be able to install an old version of Firefox then update it to the latest version by clicking on Help --> Abou...

By default, Transmission saves to your Downloads directory which will be on the device you have Puppy installed on.

In Transmission, click on Edit then Preferences, then under that Torrents tab change the directory that it saves to, to /mnt/sdc1/the directory you want to save to.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out Openbox and Carolina.
The tray applets are easily taken care of if you dont want them.
Would the tray applets be likely to use more CPU resources in Puppy, than in Mint/*buntu/etc?

I tried installing these packages in Slacko as well, and take it that this is how the icons are meant to look. Unfortunately I didn't notice ant drop in CPU usage though, but thanks for posting the links anyway as it was an interesting experiment. I'm now using an old Lucid 5.2.8.6 savefile on my la...

Perhaps it depends on what you have installed to it. Just last night I copied another frugal Lucid 5.2.8.6 directory from the HDD on my desktop pc, to the HDD on my laptop. I had to run Xorg the first time I booted up, but after that it ran just fine. About all I have installed to it is Firefox, vlc...

I've used Htop before but somehow got into the habit of using top in the terminal. I also have the top 5 processes permanently displayed on conky on my desktop. What I've noticed with Puppy though, is that the list of processes doesn't seem to account for all of the total CPU usage. http://www.murga...

So puppy is not portable then ? It says it's made to be portable and have your OS in your USB stick but then I need to have two savefile, wtf :'( I'd like to have the same settings from one computer to the other (apart from resolution), for example, same filezilla settings, same geany settings etc....

I think I'm halfway there. I installed those packages and the new desktop icons are there and appear to be working, but the old icons still seem to be underneath them.

Best Puppy for low CPU usage?

I've noticed on my old laptop that CPU usage with the system "idling" has varied from around 5 - 7% to 12 - 15% with Lucid 5.2.8.6, 5.2.8.7, and Precise 5.7.1. Whereas using Mint 13 MATE, Kubuntu 12.04, Debian and LXLE, CPU usage is around 1 - 3% On my desktop pc which is far from being st...

I just tried setting it to not display any drive icons on the desktop in PupControl Panel, but it hasn't made any noticeable difference to CPU usage. thats does not affect it as the scripts run regardless. They do the icons/drive detection, check for save free space (never works in my experience), ...

Did something no longer function in the previous build? Lot's of those updates were Pup apps. That my earlier 528 does everything I need, I only bother patching for security purposes. Since the kernel appears unchanged, take a peek @ the services you've got running.. Xorg's @ which version on your ...

Why is CPU usage with Lucid 5.2.8.7 so high ...or is it?

HI, I have had Lucid 5.2.8.6 installed (frugally) on my old laptop: PB EasyNote E6307 AMD Sempron 3000+ single core CPU 768MB RAM integrated VIA graphics ...for several months, on its own partition. In that time I have installed Kubuntu 12.04, Mint 13 MATE, Debian, and now have LXLE, on another part...

It appears the problem in this thread is rather unusal. Yes it does. :) With the printer connected, the first block device reported is sdb. sda in that case appears to be some kind of non block based storage device. I have a similar and unresolved issue with a chinese mp3 player that reports a hidd...

ok you have a ide AND sata controllers on your motherboard, this is not uncommon during transition from ide to sata based motherboards and I think the ide ( is reporting two slots ) so A and B device blocks are assigned to IDE then sata is set for C, D... H block devices. This should be normal beha...

I'm not sure what I could try changing. There are sockets for primary and slave IDE drives, and six SATA sockets. Not that I can think of.

This problem only occurs on this particular computer. I also sometimes use Precise 5.7.1 on my laptop and the hard drive is always sda on it.
