Hi rcrsn51, If you are downloading through a Windows, I saved the file to root with an old version of my seamonkey on Puppy431 loaded in RAM. The file didn't appear good. So I downloaded it to a USB on my Win XP desktop. Then plugged the USB into the HP laptop and followed your instructions. Finally...

Hi rcrsn51,
Downloaded one click. In the root folder it is listed as a DOTetc.bak file
Is this a problem?
Don't forget. The machine was a HP Win ME.

Hi EDB,
Installed full puppy 431 per your instructions. Files all installed with no warnings.

On exiting PUI, I couldn't complete the item re the menu.lst file. It's not in Boot/Grub
and the text file is not in TMP.

Will I be able to boot either from the hard drive or the CD?

Hi Ardvark,
Laptop is "Pavilion N3478 in lieu of N3330"?
They both use the same user guides.
Should I try changing ACPI in BIOS?
I read the latest notes for both.
N3330 - talks about Power Management (speeding up processor)
N3478 - Doesn't talk about that but talks about dual monitors)

Hi Ardvark, I backed up and went thru the posts. I believe the problem started afterI I loaded pup-394 and tried pup-431. Refer to my post Tue 14 Jan 2014, 11:37 on p3. I also created some partitions at that time. My Idea is that although Win ME still works OK there may be some change that is affect...

Hi Ardvark,
I thought that there is no difference between the 2 expressions. If I don't use the -v,. I get one output per tab. If I use the -v I get the whole string of outputs in one shot. I'll check it out and if it's different I'll repost.

Hi Greengeek, Re Just in case this setting is contributing to that problem I recommend you do the following: click menu, desktop, 'pupx set properties of x', screensaver, and then untick the 'enable screensaver' box. At least that will eliminate one potential cause. Unticted "Blank the screen r...

Hi Greengeek, [ 2) Repeat the same process but this time when you shutdown tell it to create a savefile in sda4 (which seems to be a hard drive partition with plenty of free space, and should not interfere with any of your Windows files).
