Well, truth be told, I hate dealing with "bleeding edge" hardware - actually, I'm setting up an Intel NUC Celeron 847 for a friend, who wants to use it for a HTPC, but insists on having mpdPup as a separate OS just for music... I'm OK with ancient hardware (heh!), but these newfangled hard...

I think I finally got it! I installed Legacy Grub Config 2013 and started from scratch... Didn't really have to do that (would have probably worked with the existing grub install), but anyway: the problems is that I have to provide the argument to "grub-set-default" in the form of the root...

Ok I must ask the dumb question...why not use puppy to play the movies? Because I'm using a rather unusual Puppy variant (mpdPup), which does not have the ability or the drivers to do that. This Puppy is aimed at audiophiles, and does one thing only - plays music (from the command line) :) This run...

OK, I am now completely lost :( I've tried several combinations, and can't seem to move an inch. Let me reiterate: the general purpose of this combination is to have a dual boot system consisting of puppy linux (mpdPup variant) as a default boot option, and an OpenELEC (xbmc) installed on another pa...

Somewhat unusual multiboot configuration problem

Hi, Hope someone can help with this issue... Namely, I'm trying to set up a multiboot machine which would run a frugal install of mpdPup ( http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=81984 ) and OpenELEC (for watching movies) on the same HDD. mpdPup would be a default OS, used for listening to musi...

Looks alright to me Denis P, especially as it did the job! Just wondering, did you think that it was possible to add 16khz and 22khz or does the first zero switch mean that the lowest it would go was 44.1 khz? The reason is simple: "00" (two zeros) are intentionally WRONG - so that any sa...

Yes if you can post it Denis P that would be good to have a look at the Emu chip. Well, here's the script. Perhaps I should not post such ugly hacks, but, hey - it works :) Unfortunately, I had to return the E-MU 0404 device - I just had to make it work for someone else. Hopefully, the owner will b...

And, BTW, I solved my problems with E-MU 0404 USB and mpdPup - by using a bash script which I cobbled together somehow. Now the E-MU 0404 USB works on all sample rates.

If anyone's interested, I can post the script here, primitive as it is :)

Re: any ideas how to upgrade?

- second that. Hope everything is well, Idolse - - enjoying the fruit of your work almost daily We haven't heard from Idolse in a while, I sure do hope he's OK.. Likewise, I am enjoying his work on mpdPup on a daily basis :) And, Idolse, please contact me at denple AT gmail.com - I promised you a h...

Well, further to my problem with E-MU 0404 USB DAC: - I tried compiling newer alsa (alsa-driver, alsa-firmware, etc.), but to no avail: the compiled alsa-driver throws errors when used (and I seem to be missing "alsamixer"), so I gave that up :( But, since this is Linux we're dealing with,...

I got an E-MU 0404 USB "sound card" for testing, which is used as external DAC, and I need to get it working with mpdPup. It works (kind of) - the problem is that it does NOT swich sample rates automatically: I need to use "alsamixer" and manually set "Clock rate", wher...

@DenisP - compiling Squeeze Server is possible and I've done it successfully while exploring how to package it. The real problem is the packaging - it relies heavily on Perl and numerous CPAN packages. OK, I understand - but I don't need no packaging :) I just want to install it on ANY Puppy versio...

Logitech Media Server (Squeezebox Server)

I'm looking at possibilities of installing Logitech Media Server (LMS) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logitech_Media_Server ) in any Puppy variant. There were some questions about installing Squeezebox Server/LMS in the Puppy forums in the past few years, but it seems no one was able to successfully...

Squeezebox server possible?

As a sidenote, since I'm tinkering with various music "appliances", I wondered if it would be possible to compile any kind of squeezebox server, either for mpdPup or any other Puppy variant? I checked, and there were several questions over the past few years, but it seems no one was able t...

OK, looks like I sorted out the problem with the remote. First, I had to add another command to /etc/rc.d/rc.local: sleep 10 /usr/sbin/empcd & Namely, the default command for starting empcd (file "30.empcd" in /etc/init.d) doesn't seem to work - I'm not sure why... First command (sleep...

BTW, Idolse, can you contact me at denple@gmail.com ?

I think I might have a hardware donation for you :)

Also, I can offer help in documenting the mpdPup project, like writing a manual, etc. (I've already written a manual in Croatian....)
THX,
Denis

@Denis, Sorry I can't provide tons of help on this remote support - I'll need to pick up some cheap USB sensors/remotes to see if I can figure out what's going on. You were on the right track with the udev rules though. Maybe it's showing up as a slightly different device during the boot process an...

Hm, back to square one...

This morning I turned the machine on, and the remote commands are again not recognized unless I start X (xwin)....
What bugs me the most is that last night everything worked in the console, without starting X first - even after several reboots :(

Again, glad to say that I resolved my cheap ebay USB remote problem :) The problem was that I didn't understand how the input is handled.... After some googling, I found out the solution, here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO:Configure_VRC-1100_remote_for_Ubuntu I followed the instructio...
