Frugal Install on NTFS

Thank you jamesbond for the info and links. I had a look at the links and can now see the source of the unknown account with a name involving the decimal expansion of pi. It is mentioned in the user mapping notes, under the section about NO DATA SHARING with Windows, which is clearly not the case in...

Frugal Installs

I was rather pleased to read that in the latest release, 8.10, one could choose to run all applications as root. This, I thought, would resolve a problem I had with running 8.02. It didn't, so I am now flagging this for your attention. I run Fatdog as a frugal install on my hard drive, dual booting ...

Thank you for the response

Thank you step and dr.Dan for the very helpful answers to all my questions. I shall now spend some time trying out the suggestions to add the extra Lighthouse Pup features to my Fatdog.

Converting PETs to the New package format

Hello It has been a long time since I have posted on the forums but I have still been an avid Puppy user in the meantime. I have been using Lighthouse Puppy 503g for most of my work but, because of more and more web pages not being rendered by the Opera browser of that era (due to security protocol ...

Lin'N'WinNewB works for me on my Windows7 and Vista PCs. You are in control of everything. Copy some files and run Windows' BCDedit program as directed, set up your menu.lst entries and it just works. http://www.icpug.org.uk/national/linnwin/step00-linnwin.htm On bootup, you see a choice of Windows...

Thanks, Mike, for the pointer to the library file libgconf2. I tried it with my Lighthouse Puppy and Vivaldi still didn't work. I then tried it with Slacko (5.3.3) and it still didn't work. More investigation required. This is why I use Portable Windows Apps under Wine! They usually work without has...

Thank you for the info, OscarTalks. Yes, the Opera in Lighthouse is the old Presto based Opera - Opera itself is version 11.1. This Lighthouse predates Slacko so you are right that I will need the libgconf2, at least - (if I knew where to find it). Otherwise I will have to use another Puppy - althou...

I have been using Opera in Lighthouse Pup 5.03G for years. It has become less and less useful as time has gone on as more and more web sites have moved to html5 and structured pages to work with modern browsers. The pages of my ISP now come up blank in Opera. The Internet Archive will now only show ...

Yes - Windows 8 actually implements Quick Boot by not actually shutting down - more like hibernation. Consequently the drive is in use by Windows still.

Just like to say thanks for the latest upgrade. I've downloaded and setup the latest lupusuper2plus as a frugal install. Pleased to see that rerwin acted on my suggestion that Dillo be updated to enable browsing of https pages. Seems to work OK with wikipedia. One thing I noticed with this latest ve...

Thanks guys. I know all about the browser situation with this pup. However, Dillo is nice for those of us who do not want a full featured browser all of the time. I also use OffByOne with Wine in another pup. This suffers from the same problem with regard to https but with OffByOne there is nothing ...

Something I noticed while running the lupusuper2plus of 20141203. I was using the default browser Dillo and searching the web. The search engine is set to DuckDuckGo and when I hit the go button it gets an error message. DuckDuckGo is an https address and Dillo is not configured for https. Instructi...

Reading through the original post again it does not say whether a folder is being used. It just asks where to save personal files. I thoght your use of a save FOLDER had specific meaning which I did not understand - not so sure now. Anyways, I stand by my post. If you create a save folder in /root a...

hmm with a save folder the space in /root is the same as /mnt/home since the former is within the latter. ... mike I think you already know this, Mike, but just to clarify to newbies - that statement is slightly confusing for save FILES. It may be OK for save folders - I don't know what they are. O...

The error message seems to be a function of the browser I used - very basic but secure - no javascript. To say not having permission is a bit of a strange message for this fault though.

It worked when I used Opera from Lighthouse 5.0.3g
