Hi all, it appears that there are now newer versions of MPD around (0.18.5) than the one used in the mpdpup version (0.17). - Are these significantly better? - Is it possible to upgrade/change without much hacking? or ... is there a new mpdpup version around the corner ... ;-) New mpdpup around the...

@boulogne75 Thanks for the offer.... Right now I am just playing around with the software listening for changes. I listen for the most neutral presentation. My system consists of: MiniITX boards [Atom D510, D525], I have on hand to compare MacMini w/PureMusic, Windows with various music software [Fo...

Looking at some Kernel tuning from the IBM and Oracle web sites. I remember earlier we were trying SHIMAX and SHIMIN etc. tuning. The original poster was just throwing numbers in and listening for differences. I'd like to logically tune the kernel to run at optimal per IBM and Oracle's suggestions b...

Bug in MPD with wav file for version 17.x I remember this awhile back and I bought it up to the MPD folks...I found the fix for it back then and will work with MpdPup. Indeed wav files did not play on my machine with rev 17.x installed. The fix is, you have to insert this line in the mpd.conf file. ...

@boulogje75 With regards to studio4 and MPD ver 15.4. To my ears it sounds just a tad bit thick compared to MpdPup. I tried installing newer versions to no avail. Linux has a way of sucking you in....in that you start out with a seemingly simple task and 12 hours later you are still at square one. A...

MPDPup ships with kernel 2.6.39 # uname -r 2.6.39 # StudioPuppy has a real time kernel but only supports an old version of MPD 15.4 Puppy Linux be default only has one user...root. Every shell is started by root and PuppyLinux does not have a security/limits.conf file nor a security directory in /et...

@Idolse I trired putting the ulimit command inside every place I could imagine. But non of them 'seemed' to work. I say seemed because when I change the ulimit via a shell and do a ulimit -a to see the change it shows....however if I close the shell, then reopen and do a ulimit -a the default values...

@Walter Thank you for the information and test results. At this point its a fine balancing act. My pleasure :D How do my perceived results compare with your own? I am sure is is system specific to some extent. My perception is when in apply both ulimit -s and -l as unlimited the sound becomes a bit...

I understand that Puppy Linux does not have a security/limits.conf file. However the limits can be seen using the ulimit -a command. They can be set to new values with the ulimit command as well, bad thing is I can't figure out which file to add the command in to set it at boot. I would like someone...

Dynobot Great tip! Can you either repost directions to decrease the other priorities to or point me to a post? I have put in a bunch of your tweaks. all good, thanks Want to make sure I have not missed these the Nice -1 on MPD removed a nagging concern I had with the sound of an ALIX board running ...

Hi Idolse I understand about being too busy in real life....I was extremely busy until recently hence by absence. Now I am looking at about 6 months down time and will spend more time here to discuss MPDPUP. I forgot to post that I also increased the priority of MPD via the file in init.d. Just unco...

Well I spent some time playing with TinyCore Linux. Got Deadbeef to work, sounds great, did not do any critical listening/comparison between mpdpup though. Also MPD does not work with TInyCore at the moment with the current rev and mpd. The packages are out of sync. Furthermore I can not compile mpd...
