Christianity and Buddhism
There is, and can be, no relationship between Christianity and Buddhism. Christianity is not some sort of feel-good moral philosophy, but the word Christian mean prisoner or captive of Christ. Jesus was not a moral change-agent but the one and only very Son of God with a divine purpose to fulfill. T...

Useful video software
There are a handful of programs that are useful for video editing. Some share dependencies with each other and with other programs. Experience elsewhere shows that upgrading any module in a working system is difficult as it is easy to break something unawares, the only recovery then being restoring ...

Try the alsamixer. A lot of creative cards are not setup properly automatically.

Puppy is delightfully fast but obtaining some applications can be a problem. I keep Puppy for a DVD/CD copier/burner workstation. Normal use now is PCLinuxOS2007 for me, and 2006 for my wife. The 2006 version is running well in a P3-700. My preference for PCLinuxOs is because it has always simply wo...

Music software: I have tried Rosegarden - if you seriously want to work with notation it is very convoluted. It can probably do more than is obvious but a great deal of learning seems needed. The documentation is of little help. There is a windows program 'Noteworthy Composer' which is being report...

Audigy 2 working
Puppy has hidden features: Alsamixer is an extended mixer which unlocks the Audigy 2 controls. It is command line only, so open a terminal and type alsamixer. The commands are a little cryptic: The arrow keys allow the hidden controls to be seen. With the numlock on the + - keys change the volume. T...

Audigy 2
The previous alsamixer (CLI) in 2.12 is reported as enabling the output. In later versions the gui dosen't give access to the option required. These Audigy 2 cards have a great deal of user options. Can we have a cli version back otherwise I will have to revert to 2.12.

Audigy Sound card
My Audigy 2 sound card is not recognised. This is no peculiar to 3.0 but it dropped out in 2.16 when I swapped out my SB Live. I was hoping that this may have been possible with the latest version. A fix in PCLinuxOS is to use KMix. The Audigy card needs an extended mixer so that some analogue/digit...

Kino looks reasonably straigthforward to use but I don't know if it goes far enough. For my church I need to be able to disasemble a dvd, edit it and put it back together again. Frequently the sound track needs work, levels need adjusting etc; on the video side, white balance colour correction is de...

This is a useful project. I have been running e-sword under wine and it works well. Both that, and the Gnome bible software, are useful because of the variety of material available.:E-Sword also has the Greek texts.; the other, some of the Tyndale which is a gem. I second any comments about the unfa...

RMB - Rip, Make, Burn has a toolpanel for working with DVD and Cd's. It is a copyist's worktool so you can edit or convert ripped audio and test that the burn was sucessful, even turn off wavplay or madplay if you accidentally set them going. It images, rips and burns fast. ISO's can be made by simp...

Thanks Sunburnt. I would like to delete the original upload but haven't discovered how to yet. For the video enthusiast I have some more: vob2Xvid/Dvix (MPG4) and Xvid2Vob. I need something like this for archival use. The reconversion is scarcely different from the original. Now, I am working on tur...

Oops!
In the uploaded version setup is accessed by rmb -s not rmb -setup. I economised on keystrokes while testing and forgot to change it back.
Attached is the new rmb executable and the full installation package corrected

How to encode to Xvid in 2.14?
Anyone know anything about this?
I can make avi or mpg from vob and would like to encode to Xvid. It may be that I have to do something with the ffmpeg installation - but that's not really my territory.
Playback works well in gxine.
Regards & thanks.

I have just put together a utility, RMB, that can convert VOB to to AVI, MpG or M2V and are looking to create a video workstation toolpanel as well. Ffmpeg is reasonably straightforward. Cdrdao seems to have been obsoleted by cdrecord. I would like to include a facility to encode or decode Xvid as w...
