speedtest

Initial testing suggests connection speeds through my mobile hotspot could be 2x or more faster than what I was seeing on my AT&T DSL service - for slightly less $$ per month. Download varied from 0.930 to 1.56 Mbps, vs. 330 - 410 Kbps on DSL. I tested with ATT Speedtest, Verizon and Ookla; exce...

Now Working!

Renewing the subscription to my MiFi hotspot was all it took. Once I turn off the DSL and switch over to the hotspot exclusively it won't take me so long to figure out when the jar runs empty, perhaps. ;) So - yes, indeed the WPN511 connects with WPA2. @bigpup - many thanks for hanging in with me --...

Wonder if that indicates it actually works. What would you refurbish on one of these cards :?: That's a really good question- and no easy way to get a definitive answer. :( With my limited experience I have trouble grasping how the card could be "not working" and I am able to successfully...

You really sure you have wpa2 ability with this? I'm taking Mike's word for it - I originally ordered it after finding it recommended in these forums - possibly in Rerwin's Lucid thread. Long enough ago that I forget specifics. This newgg link sure looks like the card now in my tower. The label on ...

WPN511 (PCMCIA) comes up and connects

Okay - here's my status update: My purchased PCI-PCMCIA adapter works OOTB - at least Puppy sees it and the WPN511 (PCMCIA) plugged into it. SNS successfully brings up a wireless connection with my WPA2-AES configured AP - BUT while I can talk to my AP at 192.168.1.1 I cannot see the outside world. ...

WPA / TKIP failures

This morning I was reviewing this thread, and decided I'd share a bit of what I've seen, even though I have decided to try the WPN511 (PCMCIA) instead of the WPN111 (USB). Who knows - this little bit of my experience could be useful to someone else sometime down the road. We have figured out it only...

Working as WPA

THANK YOU ALL! I'm posting using my WPN111 (USB) with WPA security. bigpup: thanks to your first reply, I did test as WPA not WPA2. It took me some trial and error, but I do have it connecting now. For whatever reason, I was never able to get Dougal's network wizard to connect. I made two changes to...

EDIT:- Strange you should have obtained a WPN511; I'm fairly sure I pulled that model out of these forums - perhaps one of the Lucid Puppy threads. Heck, it could have been one of your posts, who knows?! ;) It's going to take me a spell to work through these suggestions - I'll eventually post back ...

Okay - It sounds like the fact that I successfully connected a couple of times must simply be a fluke. You have given me enough information to either do more digging, or change directions. Along the way I picked up a Netgear WPN511 - before I realized that is a PCMCIA device. I may try to get a PCI ...

Trying to set up Netgear USB WPN111 on sulu-002 -- SOLVED :)

Edit: The USB WPN111 does not support WPA2. I struggled along trying to get it to work until I determined that it was detecting a TKIP vulnerability attack and dropping the connection as a security countermeasure. My solution was to abandon the USB effort and go to a proven PCMCIA (CardBus) WPN511. ...

sfeeley- I've thought about using dropbox ... so far I'm holding back because of how often I'm working w/o an internet connection, so the usb stick still seems attractive. Because I'm only using the web interface, doesn't look like the referral will help you any :(

Looking into rsync... or unison

Thanks aragon and 8-bit!

I'm working on getting my head around the rsync man page ... there's a lot there for a windoze refugee :)

Still need to look up those how-tos...

I am looking at unison; a google search shows me discussions here, so it feels like I may be on the right track.

Windows at Work, Puppy at Home ... something like robocopy

New to this forum and to Puppy / Linux Have done some searching / browsing here; mostly just get lost and confused. On Windows XP, now Win 7, I got used to using robocopy; also fairly proficient at writing DOS .bat scripts. I want to use a thumb drive to keep folders with subfolders "synchroniz...
