Conversion/extraction needs to be done online (don't want to download the video first). It seems as if your solution does not need the full video to be downloaded but as I say it's a Python application and I'm not going to install Python just to use the application (I'm actually using Windows most ...

There seems to be confusion here. I'm looking for an online youtube to mp3 conversion service which can handle batch conversions. Conversions are done online without having to download the video first (you just enter the youtube url). All of those I've tried sofar only allow for the conversion of o...

You can use the command-line program youtube-dl to batch-download the videos and then convert them to MP3 with don570's script. After downloading the program, make it executable with chmod +x youtube-dl while in the directory youtube-dl is in. Next, type ./youtube-dl -F https://www.youtube.com/watch...

mp3 support is technically available in Free software (lame, mad, mpg123 now that it's LGPL), but some argue that the patents mean that a Free distro shouldn't package it; Debian says that decoders count as free now that they have a lawyer to advise them (IIRC). The distro I use, Trisquel, is based...

If puppy only had free software, it would be a disaster playing my music (as they are in .mp3 and I want it that way). I also couldn't connect to the interent without a 100ft+ long ethernet cord. MP3 playback doesn't require proprietary software to be played back, the only problem is that it's pate...

Is this tongue-in-cheek?cthisbear wrote:I might ask BK to take out all that evil proprietary stuff.
Enough I say.
I don't care if it makes it work.
Oh! the evil that men do.
My system works well with only free drivers, running Trisquel.

Not all Puppies have Flash pre-installed, and I wouldn't install Flash afterwards, as it is non-free, user subjugating software. :( http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html Here is an excellent speech about Free Software, by Bradley Kuhn, though it is two hours and four minutes long. http://audio-...

Without some of the proprietary drivers, the ability to even connect to the internet would be lost as most of the modem and wifi drivers have proprietary software as part of them. It depends on what hardware is used. There is a hardware compatibility with free software database. http://h-node.org U...

Free Software Puppy
Does a completely free software ( http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html ) Puppy GNU/Linux exist? If not, I would be interested in making one. First, the Linux kernel initially in Puppy would have to be replaced with one of these ( http://jxself.org/linux-libre/ ) kernels, which have the (propri...

The spyware is in the search feature in the Unity desktop environment, when a search is made, it sends the search to a remote server to send ads. I don't use Ubuntu for this reason, also, it is too slow on my computers. As long as Unity isn't included, the Puppy should be clean. I'm not sure if Luci...

Does Puppy contain any non-free software?
Puppy Linux isn't endorsed by the FSF because it recommends non-free software, (such as Adobe Flash) but does a Vanilla Slacko or Lucid Puppy contain any [Proprietary software]?

It's still possible to read punch cards today - or analog audio from wire spools. It just takes a bit of willingness to put in the effort. If some longer-lasting media arrives, then at the very least, I'll have everything all nicely sorted out to be transferred. And in the meantime, it'll all be sa...
