stepped over to Runeaudio
Hi Walter, good to 'hear' from you! This spring I stepped over to Raspberry Pi and Runeaudio. In my setup this bested atom-mpdpup. Now i'm tinkering with Hummingboard-Volumio (but didn't yet succeed to mount the NAS). I'm looking out to a real digital DIY kit like http://hifimediy.com/amplifiers/rea...

renice
hi all, i found out a way to renice some processes, but for one time use only (see edit 2) command: ps axl and look for the PID nr of the process you want to renice, for example kpsmoused has PID 36 and you want to renice to 19 (very low priority) then type renice 19 36 done! check with ps axl you c...

Tiny Core
Hi Mark, Great post!! unfortunately , the coming period will be very busy and i doubt if i can find the time to try your suggestions and to fiddle with Tiny Core and mpd. If i get somewhere i will let you know. If possible, coud you post a small manual of how to create your setup? Many thanks! Douwe...

93 very musical
Hi Idolse, great version, 9.3!! I installed it last week, 93 is much more musical, very very nice!! WaveIO is muted, had to unmute in the "old" way,like in 92,no problem Sox works fine, didn't have the time yet to ab SoX and NOS. SoX-question: in mpd.conf it says <enabled: "no"> ...

32 bit upsampling
Thanks for this explanation RayCtech, my choice for 32 bit was based on listening in a former (cMP2) setup, not on theory. I always assumed that 32 bit was more native to the os, and thought that was the reason for better SQ. My modded Benchmark DAC1 is always oversampling 2/4/8 times to max 192.000...

heat sink
i2k, extending the heat sink was a really complicated process, which reaches far beyond rocket science. I just put a bigger heat sink up side down on top of the mounted heat sink ;) cpu-temp around 50 degrees celcius. When i make an enclosure later, i'll connect it to the enclosure with metal tape o...

sox works!
Hi all, a few updates. SoX Idolse and tempestuous, your directions about implementing Sox are great, it was very easy to get it working! SQ is better than libsamplerate (not big difference, may be wishful hearing). sampling now is up to 176400 KHz / 32bit. Tempestuous i agree 176.400 sounds better t...

SoX
Hi tempestuous and Idolse, abot SoX impementation: can i just add Unixman's lines or do i have to store / compile SoX somewhere? TIA! OT: to gain sq i added a switch to my NAS-fan: works great, NAS doesn't run hot when not cooled for a few hours, sq improves. next step would be changing to notebook ...

Idolse, nrpacks works with the alsa-base.conf, thanks! the articles about buffer_size etc: http://linux.die.net/man/5/mpd.conf http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/pulse-glitch-free.html beyond nrpacks=20 Would it be possible for you to implement PHofmans tweak (nrpacks=100) in the next version of mpdpu...

Thanks Idolse, I can check nrpacks now, great! In the mean time i switched from Alix 3D3 to Atom board (Asrock AD 525PV3) and from battery to a hybrid linear/switching PSU (12v linear + pico-psu). Both brought me more detail and musicality. Startup is less slow and i can upsample to 88200 kHz. How c...

pcu frequency
@Walter
Maybe here you can find a way to set lower cpu-frequency in linux in stead of bios.

nrpacks=20
Hi Idolse, a question about nrpacks=20 which sounds so great. I didn't succeed implementing it automatically. I tried two ways: 1: options snd-usb-audio nrpacks=20 to the end of the file alsa-base.conf 2: sticking an init script in /etc/init.d/ QUOTE something like this: #!/bin/sh case "$1"...

caps
@RayCtech in previous setups i had good results capping the powerlines on the board, so i plan to do Alix in (hopefully near) future. I used to use Siemens Sikorel caps combined with small mkp's. Two questions: - are oscons better than sikorels for use on Alix? - what is the reason for the high volt...

nrpacks stuff
Idolse! I love these settings! More detail, it's just much more musical. nrpacks=100 resulted in failure; 20 was highest possible, didn't try 1 yet. Would be great if you could give instructions how to make an init script Thanks! ps i noticed slightly better SQ when putting a ferrite core around the...

Hi Walter I think you do not have to bother to get into your bios. The manual describes the things you can change in tinybios, and it is not CPU frequency. Yesterday i removed the soundchip (a famous Jack Wong mod) which pumped up SQ again. Maybe it is possible to flash your bios to the award-versio...

Alix and Alsa settings
Hi Idolse, Walter and others, Idolse wow you did a fantastic job, mpdPup is great!! For me Linux is new, but mpdpup works like a charm! So here is some, very positive, feedback. Like Walter, i'm coming from CMP2, a dedicated and stripped to the bone (hardware and OS wise) Windows XP based musicplaye...
