How to regain lost USB space after dd Slacko install?
Hi Guys Managed to boot slacko64 by dding an iso to a 32gb usb flash drive and all is working well. The disk size is now reported as 199mb. I tried the fix-usb script from fatdog64 but it seems to make the drive unbootable. Likewise, creating a fat 32 partition on the empty space with gparted left t...

just a quick update. I got a refund on the Sumvision andhave ordered a HP 260 G1 from ebuyer at £94. Seems to be a bit more versatile, can upgrade memoryand add ssd storage. Should have better support too. As a side note, I have heard back from Mele and they have confirmed that they make the sumvisi...

The issue with these mini pcs with the baytrail processor is that they are a 64bit processor with a 32bit uefi rather than a bios. Not that it matters at the moment as I said previously the computer has been sent back because it had an error and the win 8.1 recovery did not work as it should. Still ...

Thanks Ted Dog I had a quick look at the post andfollowed the link to the download but the file I down loaded was malware (I probably clicked the wrong downlod link, it was very late last night) So I will reinstall windows on the cyclone and have an in depth read of you post at the weekend. It does ...

Hi Ted dog. Thanks for the input. Thats the route I was looking at,I thought it was the bootloader. With Ubuntu and mint I have used the bootia32.efi to get up and running. This obviously doesnt work with puppy. On the fatdo64 iso the efiboot.img file does the same job I presume but for 64 bit? I ha...

Thanks fot the tip biltoo, I have forgotten that I hade a stash of mini usb wifi dongles and they work great with the mint on usb. The trouble with mint and ubuntu booting on usb is that it is so slow, so not a long term solution but it will do for now. I will continue with trying to get puppy booti...

OK, so I have had the cyclone mini PC for a week now. I can get mint booted from USB without wifi support and that's about it. I think for now that I will just use it as a windows machine (at which it is very capable) and look for another similar style of box for Linux. It is a shame that the uefi o...

Hi Thanks for the reply. First thing I did is turn off secure boot and fast boot optios. There is not an option for legacy (Bios) boot or csm on this machine that I can find. I have verified the burn of the disk (first on was not good) and went through the reboot with shift procedure and the DVD cam...

Thanks for that. Tried again and pressed the enter key but it just brings up a new line of grub prompt. Went out this morning and bought a usb DVD rewriter, burnt a fatdog64 dvd but it is not showing in the boot options. I am having to fight this machine every step of the way to get Linux booted but...

Hi Flash No, the grub is part of the dd of the ISO to the USB. I used the instructions here: http://lhpup.org/help/faqs/uefi-flashdrive.html Except that I used fatdog64-701 Grub cant seem to find the grub.cfg from what I have read. Grub2 is new to me. Last time I used grub it was quite easy to edit ...

How to edit grub for Win8 + Fatdog64 on USB?
I have a windows 8.1 Box that I am trying to run fat dog 64 on. I have got it to boot but it goes to a Grub screen with a prompt. I presume I will have to manually edit the grub file to point to the installation but would like some advice on the entry to make. The steps I have taken to get to this p...

I have had a chance to play with this little box of tricks now and must say I am very impressed with it. Win 8.1 runs very quickly on it, but I don't like the win installation. I have tried al sorts to get linux running from USB flanh drive and have managed to get mint running by using rufus in wind...

@don570 Which distro are you running on your mele please? Did you need to do anything other than disable fat boot and secure boot? I can't seem to find legacy mode in the boot settings, did you need to change it? Presuming your bios will be same as mine as the boxes look identical. Any info apprecia...

Thanks for the info guys. I cant seem to find the HP stream for sale but have looked at the reviews and it seems like a good piece of kit. Looking closely at the Melee, it looks to be the ame box as the sumvision cyclone with a different badge, same housing, specs etc. Comforting to know it will do ...

Advice on new computer
Ok, so not been on the forum for ages but been happily running slacko 5.3 for a very long time. I has come to that time where I need to upgrade my hardware as after being made redundant earlier in the year it looks like I am going to be in a new job soon that will require having a windows PC at home...

Thanks for the thoughts guys I have been using VNC and also teamviewer for years. Unfortunately vnc does not allow you to see media windows and also there are some latency problems for this application. UK proxy servers are very hard to come by (reliable ones that is) which is why I was looking in t...

Recycled BT Homehub2
Hi Just thought I would share a little victory. :D I got a couple of humehub2 routers free from my local freecyle and have been pondering what to do with them. They have a USB port on the back so I thought I would look into the possibility of using one as a NAS server as they can be expensive. First...

VPN Possible?
Hi Using slacko 5.3.3 at the moment on a hard drive install. I am currently looking in to setting my machine up to provide a VPN server so that when I go abroad i can access BBC and ITV players using a vpn connection. Is this possible? I have to mention that my home computer is connected to the inte...
