hi ally, this is an old fix but worth a go. try adding options snd-hda-intel model=generic the the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and reboot thanks phil unfortunately this did not work :) ps - managed to get sound working with http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-bionic64/nvidia...
