Glad you were both able to get your Synology connected and have got music now! I think you'll find it easier to administer if you stick with their Web UI - all the required configuration can be done from there. SSH is more for hacking on the system. I am not using SSH for configuring the NAS. I use...

Hi Lugili, the problem is Synology never meant for you to use the root user for file sharing. You need to go into the Synology Web UI, clck 'Control panel', then click 'User'. Create a new User, and when you go through the prompts make sure they have access to the share with the music library. Then...

I don´t think this has anthing to do with wierd letters. Fact is, I realise now, that I never get to the username/password section, because I am recected at the previous stage, After the validate server IP, share name and directory, I get the message the IP adress can´t be reached. - Validate the se...

It sounds like you're running into some sort of bug. When I relaunch mpdwizard I get the following: - type mpdwizard - select storage with the arrow key, press enter - Press Enter to confirm the network selection - Validate the server IP, share name, and directory are correct, press enter - usernam...

Re: Access Synology NAS

If I need to change the password for reaching the NAS, how do I set the new password in the MPD-wizard? Is it att all possible? I run a normal user account on the Synology NAS, and I keep my music in this account, but I can´t reach it, despite it is not a root account. Just run 'mpdwizard' from the...

Re: Access Synology NAS

Although I do run into a problem. My Synology NAS can only easily be accessed with SSH (I found this http://www.druhosting.com/content/synology-ssh-setup-non-root-users) if you login as root. When I try to fill in user = root in the setup wizard and then the password, the mpd server seems not to be...

Re: Access Synology NAS

Hi all, I have been roaming around a lot here but had no time to try mpdpup until now. Great job! Although I do run into a problem. My Synology NAS can only easily be accessed with SSH (I found this http://www.druhosting.com/content/synology-ssh-setup-non-root-users) if you login as root. When I tr...

Hi Kocozze, are you definitely running 0.9.3 or 0.9.3a? The older version 0.9.2 had an issue on some platforms which didn't like launching mpd with 'nice'. I removed this logic in 0.9.3. For other interested parties, I did some experimenting with MPD's buffer today. It seems to me that there may be...

[quote="ldolse"For the price difference I'd probably go with the SSD if I was assembling a system today, just because I could also check out the claims about SSD vs. NAS on audio quality. [/quote] I am rather skeptical about the idea that onboard storage would be better than NAS. But this ...

Hi Magellan, CF-SATA adapters are $15 bucks USD on Newegg. $10 more for a new CF card. Smallest SSD runs around $50 there, but could be cheaper sources. The SSD will definitely get you faster boot times, but not much else for the extra dough. Not sure what the power difference would be, both should...

Hi again folks. I have been running MPDpup for some time now and I think it is just excellent. Now I am going to buy a new minimal PC and use this PC for MPDpup and music only. The problem is this. I have found an very nice Atom driven PC, consuming just about 6 watt. Problem is I want to disable US...

Re: Resampling

Is there a terminal command which can display what samplerate and bitrate are put into the dac? I'm not sure if you can get it with your card. You can try a command like this: cat /proc/asound/card1/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params But you'll need to change card1/pcm0p/sub0 to match the hardware of your actual...

Re: Resampling

My USB DAC also accepts SPDIF. I know it accepts 24 bit 192 kHz over SPDIF. I am not sure however, if it also accepts the same bit- and samplerate over USB. I guess the most simple way to test this is to disable the resampling function in ALSA. Is this covered in the graphic configuration tool, or ...

Re: Resampling

I have a question. I don´t know but maybe the information about this are to be find in the forum somewhere, but there is a lot of posts to read through. Anyway. My question is simple. If I play a - say 24 bit 96 kHz file. Do MPD pup any resampling to 16 bit 44,1? Or is the file sent to the DAC in i...

Thanks

Hi! I just wanted to say thank you very very much for setting upp this MPD puppy dist and for sharing it with us. I have just installed it and it works nice and the sound is even better I think than with my previous Windows driven music player. It even works with 24bits over USB. I have tried to set...
