I did a lot of experiences with different wm's on some slackware-based distros and slackware himself. Now that I've switched to puppy slacko, I only use JWM. Because it works.

the [??] means most often that your ffmpeg is compiled from svn and are not one of the official releases. ffmpeg -version will tell you exactly the date of the build. I think, for your box it doesn't matter, which puppy do you choose...they all will be fitting perfect. Because of my own "history" of using slackware, I started just with slacky and I'm very happy with it.
