Speaking of sound, after a bit of testing I found the CD ripper 'PCdRipper' that come in some Pups does a better job of ripping than just about anything else I've tried - and I've tried quite a few. The rips seem to have more detail in them - just my opinion though. When I compared I used the same q...

I only use Pups on one laptop, and while I used Precise for quite a while something broke software wise and I could not fix it. Most other Pups I've tried since then have been less than pleasing on the laptop (it's a HP with a Broadcom wifi chip). Things like the wifi needing to be setup each time I...

Adding to what Mike Walsh wrote - I always run my Puppies from a live USB and direct the save file to the HDD - just select that location when exiting from the first run. I change the pmedia= in the last line of syslinux.cfg on the USB to read: append initrd=initrd.gz pmedia=cd pfix=copy because ear...

I'm running 6.3.0 64bit live from a USB and it's working very nicely thank you. I changed pmedia in the last line in syslinux.cfg to read pmedia-cd to get it to load the sfs from the HDD instead of the USB - I think that's what it does, and I've always run puppy this way - maybe except for Fatdogs. ...

If you tried to change gear in a car without using the clutch you would damage the gearbox. Nope - done this many times. 1) ease off power to take load off drivetrain 2) slip gear into neutral 3) blip the accelerator to bring engine revs up to match road speed, then 4) slip gear into next lowest ge...

If you're running FatDog off a USB stick why not just set the BIOS to boot from the USB? That's how I run my pups, including the fat one. I think FD needed a big more fiddling in the cfg files than Slacko or Lupo did (can't remember which while I'm here in bed tapping away on my iPad). Or am I missi...

Neither the laptop I updated to Win 10 Pro or the desktop I updated to Win 10 Home have melted or caught fire. Both updated without trouble. As I understand it I can control updates on the Pro version but not the Home version. It does not worry me. I used the laptop to run Win 10 betas since last ye...

How does Facebook know who I might know?

I've recently re activated my Facebook page so I could participate in a photography group that does most of its stuff on Facebook . Now I can understand how it might work out who I might be mutual friends with the few ppl I've friended, but I'm finding it's making suggestions in the 'people you migh...

You are reading my first post correctly - but I realised my mistake, copied it into the phone' SD card and tried again, as I described in my second post. With the geany file in the phone storage the MyFiles app would not open it IF THE FILE HAS NO EXTENSION, but will open it IF THE FILE HAS A TXT EX...

I realised that i opened that file while it was on the network share so i downloaded it into the phone sd card and tried opening it there. Just now I opened Geany, File, New then cut and pasted the contents of a post in this thread, Then Document, line wrap before saving it as "geany_file" with no extension. I copied the file into my shared network storage (a USB in the wireless modem/router), then with my phone (kitkat 4.4.1...

In a past life I was a laptop support person in a small school - I always had several old lappies to play with. I can't help with puppies but one like that DEC would run an early Xandros quite well, or maybe an early 'buntu. It would be great with NT4 Workstation or even Win2000. Whoever thought you...

thumbnails

My savefile (Fatdog64) is filling up although I don't knowingly store anything there. A bit of a browse through the graphical disk map thing show a lot of thumbnails (amongst other things such as stuff in slapt-get which I though went externally somewhere into downloads). I guess there is a lot of t...

I run Win 10 Preview on this modest laptop (HP Pavilion dm1) and I also run my pups on it - BUT I only run live pups from CD or USB because I do not like multiple boot menus stuffing around with the HDD. Currently running Fatdog64 from a USB. btw the preview runs nicely with 4Gb ram. As I recall the...

I managed to copy the factory restore partion to the new disk, but it refused to play nicely. Bro was happy with reinstalling his programs so I ended up putting Windows10 on the new disk and just copying the data across.

Puppy sees c drive but windows can't

I am in the process of trying to migrate partitions from a dodgy HDD to a new one for my bro. The HDD is a 1Tb Seagate in a ACER box running Win7. It no longer boots - gets partway then hangs for ever. After some fiddling I have found that the Windows 7 rescue disk does not see the C; drive. If I pu...
