It is good for me
For me, I am happy about Ubuntu LTS going to 5 year. I installed Ubuntu for my family members (who are not computer literate on any level), because of the ease in which they can operate and my ease in maintaining so many computers. My family and I do not care for Unity or Gnome 3 as a desktop. I've ...

It is not a paradigm shift as such
Tell me more about that paradigm then? Is it Unity that is going on? If I am to offer an opinion. It seems to me, that in the past, the philosophical underpinning of Linux (the things that are not said) is that "we can do what you can do better" whether the target of this statement was Mi...

Turn a bout
Why not let him drive and YOU sit in the back.
A little role reversal might do some good.

Why I use Puppy (amonst others)
Now that I have read through the whole thread (whew).... I've been playing with Puppy since version 2. At that time I was a Win user, because that is what my computer came with. I knew it well. I've been around since the CPM days. Before that, mainframes. I never ran Puppy full time for any reason, ...

I would like it too
Being able to set defaults for a word processor and spreadsheet would be fantastic. Abiword works fine for me, but I need and equation editor that isn't a big hassle. Gnumeric works fine too, but alas, I need macro capability with the additional goodies (like buttons) that I can get from OO or Excel...

Now that I thought about it
I just had this logo in mind (evil thoughts again) of an angry wet cat. There was a double meaning here, but it escapes me at the moment along with a whole list of system sounds, pointers, and other artwork. I can see the point about the Debian installer though. I'm working through a Linux install w...

Name Suggestions
Now that I've got the gist of the README.txt, the evil part of my mind is at work. Sometimes, I get that kind of free time. (sigh) Then, I tend to wander. Really, the website's down? Could they have an issue with the name? (Did I mention that I wander sometimes?) I hesitate to do this, because peopl...

How I did it.
The way I put a book mark on the desktop... I created an HTML (text) file and put it on the desktop. It can be named anything like MyLocation.html. I placed the following HTML redirect code into the file. <HEAD> <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url= http://www.yourdomain.com/ind...

Raspberry PI
Hey,
Has anyone had the chance to look at the "Raspberry PI" computer? I understand that it a micro computer using an ARM processor and running on Linux. It has been listed with a price point of $25.00.

What it would take
I got to thinking about the process of how to build a Puppy for the ARM powered devices. First off, as I understand it, current Puppies are build using a build system and previously existing Linux distribution. I am guessing that there only a few of those supporting ARM. and these are currently &quo...

Lots of Distros
I like trying lots of distributions. I have a huge hard drive that I've cut up into a bunch of little partitions. Currently I have about 6 or 7 operating systems installed. I have installed each of them with their own bootloader in the same partition as the distribution in question. I use GAG graphi...

While theoretically possible, that would take a bit of well-written code to make it happen. You'd have to have an LD_PRELOADable library which would trap all write glibc operations, figure out if the write was going to a flash device and then increment the counter. I was thinking that. I'm not sure...

Write Counter
Hello, I am using Puppy 5.2.8 on a USB stick. I have the stick set up so that there is a Linux swap partition on it as well. I've been using for a year, so far it works fine. At the price of 4 gig sticks (this one I got free), I'm not too concerned about the write-life of SSDs. I do regular backups....

Addressing Your Concerns
This is the first time I've posted here, but I have been using Puppy in and out since the version 2 days. (BTW guys, great job on 5.2.8, works great) I'm not sure the "suggestions" forum is the correct place for this post. If not, apologies. Even though the latest Puppy version is more sup...
