I think I have found the problem.

On the fresh install of puppy I did not do the xorgwizard and I guess it was causing some problems.

It all works now.

I agree, but we have to remember this OS is designed for beginners so I guess it's easier for most to use the mouse. But some things are of course easier done from the console.
