Converting frugal with save-file to frugal with save-folder?

Tahr 605, 32 bit. Frugal install on ext3 disk with ext3 savefile. I'd like to convert to a save-folder setup but not a full install. So, I've booted pfix=ram, saved on shutdown into a folder, to give me a base directory structure. My inclination is to boot back into the newly created pup, mount the ...

I've also posted a query on this at github for JoeW, so it'll be interesting to see how he responds

Can't fix an app on desktop - always moves to active desktop

On Precise (with whatever default version of JWM comes with it), I used to run 3 virtual desktops. If I opened Geany on, say, desktop 3, and also opened a console on desktop 2, found a file and ran "geany filename" in the console, the file would open in geany on desktop 3. Convenient - if ...

QUICKSTART: Installing VirtualBox in TahrPup 6.0.5 64Bit

I've just installed Oracle VirtualBox 5.2.18 on my TahrPup 6.0.5 64-bit, so that I can run Win7-64 in order to run Lightroom 4.4. While it was reasonably straightforward, there were a couple of glitches that might be worth making public if anyone else happens to want to do the same. (Or you might wa...

I note that freevpn.co.uk has implemented privacy over its whois entry, but their latest IP address for a vpn endpoint is given as 77.73.68.13. A whois on this gives a registrant of Fishnet Communications in Leningrad/St.Petersburg, just round the corner from the notorious "Internet Research Ag...

Just to make it a little clearer on what you change. To change the color of the fonts on the desktop icons: Right click on a icon Rox-filer->options->pinboard->appearance Change the foreground color to what you like. Hit OK when you are done. Yep. For even more detail, in case someone tips over thi...

Try right clicking a desktop icon and choosing Rox-Filer -> Options -> Pinboard Ha! Thanks trapster. I've used Puppy for so long now, and almost the only thing that has ever really bugged me about it is how much of a faff it is to go about modifying the UI :) Having to tweak several different files...

Changing desktop text label colours (PuppyPin) ?? [SOLVED]

Is it possible to change the colour of the text labels of icons on the Puppy desktop? I like a dark background, but the text labels under icons are still rendered as black, making them virtually unreadable. I'd like them to render as white or pale grey. Running Tahr, so PuppyPin is XML, but my googl...

Suspend to RAM

So, I finally got a wrinkle smoothed out that was stopping me swinging over to Xenial from Precise - suspend to ram. I've used acpitool for years to manage suspending, but I just couldn't make it work with Xenial, whatever combination of acpi options I plugged into the boot parameters (which had wor...

OpenSSL TLSv1 problems in Precise 5.6.1

My Precise 5.6.1 installation uses OpenSSL 1.0.1 (14 Mar 2012), which seems to be the latest version available for that platform via PPM. A lot of what I do on it is developing wee apps (eg twitter bots) in Python3. It seems that the Python repos have deprecated TLSv1 and I can no longer use Python'...

Just an observation here... It seems that the 4-series kernels have dropped support for the ath5k/9k and the ath ethernet. Regards 8Geee Which is probably why the XenialPup7.5 version has an addon .pet for the atheros cards - it works fine with my AOA150. I was advised however that 7.0.6 was a more...

Hi 8Geee Look again! ;) With respect, musher0, your system has the directory structure /lib/modules/4.1.2-EmSee-32-pae/ but mine (as you can see in the screenshot I supplied) has /lib/modules/4.1.30/ SO we must be looking at different editions of the pup. I got mine from here: http://augras.eu/pupp...

The driver IS included, at: /lib/modules/4.1.2-EmSee-32-pae/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k/ath5k.ko so perhaps it is something else? For some reason the driver does not load properly? Or your card itself has a glitch? see screenshot - it's not included in mine, and the directory structure is...

Python in new Puppy distributions

Oh and btw, Python 2.7 is at end-of-life in June 2020. Any new Pups really ought to be built with (at least) Python 3.5 from now on. Obviously there's a case for including 2.7 as well for legacy apps, but then of course you run into space issues when trying keep the overall size of the Pup down. Jus...

At no time is it recommended to use a save from one named version or Puppy with a different named version of Puppy. I repeat, AT NO TIME!!!!!! This is simply false, as BK would attest. At the very least, the /root directory should be able to be preserved - my current ~/.config is c.170MB, and start...
