I would also not be too quick to assume that your hardware is exactly the same as it was yesterday. Sometimes even brand new HW can die a slow and gradual death. Does your live cd run successfully on other computers? If so then it is fine and I am afraid that something has changed in your Dell. You ...

Has this worked OK in the past? How is Puppy installed? I have a frugal install on the hard drive and yes it does work fine. It just seems that every second Tuesday if we had a good rain two nights before the thing is buggered. Just played the same video again to check and the little red cross is t...

Righto a few more details. It is a desktop with an old all in one motherboard. The sound works after install but then just sometimes the little red cross appears in the volume control icon in the system tray and no sound comes out. To get even weirder, last night when I started this thread it was no...

Abiword has some even stranger problems. I write many documents due to commitments. Nothing fancy, just a heading in a large font and one page of text. Noticeboard stuff. I do have one document though that just will not print properly. It prints the heading but not the rest. I sent the same file to ...

Puppy 431 sound just dies after a while
I run my computer 24/7 and on quite a few occasions I have woken up in the morning to find that my sound has decided to die. I do not sleepwalk so it was not me. Running 4.3.1 on a HP Vectra.

I have not read every thread here yet. I am still working on it but from what I have seen so far you have a very nice forum and community. Every question I have asked so far has been answered with enthusiasm and courtesy. The only thing I could suggest is that several times people have chosen to sen...

System information
One of my old programming forums has a nifty little tool that gathers system information. CPU, speed, ram, OS version and build etc. Of course that was a windows site so it will not work here but it did make it a lot easier to answer questions and was a lot easier for the beginners to provide the ne...

Firefox
I don't know if anybody else is getting this. I do not even know whether it has anything to do with puppy but this thing handles like a pig. Puppy fires up at full speed. Everything else seems to be working fine but in Firefox there is a very noticeable delay between moving the cursor over a link an...

I find this place quite refreshing actually. It is certainly much better than a lot of the forums I have seen over the years, including my own. A bit of heated debate is always a good thing as long as that is what it is and lets face it, if none of us had any opinion we would all still be sitting ar...

Well I am very happy to know that others had the same experience with the Ubuntu forum. It was an absolute shocker of a site and I had to conclude that very few of them had a clue what they were talking about. They were just there to big note themselves and abuse noobs for asking quite reasonable qu...

Well I have upgraded myself to two problems now. Firstly I tried to install QTPOV Editor by downloading qtpoveditor_linux_bin_v1.0.0.bz2. I then used unrar e qtpoveditor_linux_bin_v1.0.0.bz2 but that does not like a bz2. Neither did unzip qtpoveditor_linux_bin_v1.0.0.bz2. What do I do there? For the...

There definitely is one on Windows and it comes with the download. It is more of an IDE/Editor but integrates everything so there is no command line usage necessary. I have used POVRAY for years and I really don't want to have to face learning all that. EDIT: Guess I should have read the website a b...

POVRAY Installation
Hello all I have been running Puppy for a few months now and most things are going well. However I have decided to get adventurous and install POVRAY. I downloaded POVLINUX-3.6.tgz from the official site and it installs without problem. Sort of. The test works but there is no GUI like on the Windows...
