First, a gentle reminder to use the forum's search function, located at the top of the page. Please do. In fact, I'm guessing the reason that no one has responded to your post is because the answer is not too difficult to find.

See this thread.

After being away from puppy for quite a while, I check back in to find just about the coolest thing ever (mostly for the "neat-o" factor, not the practicality). I'm writing this from within puppy, running inside windows XP right now. and it was very simple to set up and execute. This was j...

I got a laptop from ebay...it's a pretty high-end machine, but I got it for a song because *no hard drive* (which is perfect for puppy but terrible for most other OSes). There seems to be a very healthy laptop marking going on ebay, with established prices, etc (you pay a certain amount for a certai...

Albert, looks like Barry found your problem and no doubt it will be fixed in the next version of puppy.

Doc, I think the problem you are describing is addressed here. Why you chose to post about here, in the middle of an unrelated post, I can't figure out.

Yes, it seems like you're having exactly the same problem I was having when I made that post. If you don't have a USB key, they are VERY inexpensive and VERY convenient to have around. I suggest you check the wiki for keys that are known to be reliable with puppy (or at least are good for booting), ...

You know, if you're trying to win converts, maybe MS puppy isn't the right choice. As you're experiencing (and this forum evidences), MS can be a naughty puppy (can't believe I just said that), and can be difficult to get working correctly. There are quite a few people who have reported not being ab...

Yeah, Barry, that was the problem. I have no idea how it happened, though, as I booted a brand new puppy 1.0.4 CD and didn't upgrade from my previous CD...I did, however, mount the previous CD to copy the firefox installer from it...maybe I inadvertantly screwed something up during that time (like t...

Hey Barry, Did you forget to implement this change in puppy 1.0.4? I'm still getting the "the following files will be moved to "archive"" message. And my rc.reboot-cd file still has the file size limit of "5000k". I've tried to edit rc.reboot-cd by hand and change it to...

Hi, It sounds like you're asking, "if I create an MS Puppy disk on one computer, can I then run it on a different computer?" If that's the question, then the answer should be "yes, no problem." When you first burn your MS puppy disk, you've just got a plain old puppy disk with no...

Just to be sure.... You linked to another thread which mentions adding a "-D" command to your rc.reboot file, to handle long file names. You are doing that, aren't you? And you are aware that rc.reboot is overwritten every time you reboot, so you either have to manually change the file eve...

"Premature EOF" problem: directories too deep

This doesn't sound like the same problem I was having, but I do think I might have some insight into this... What it sounds like to me is that you are having the "Premature EOF" problem, which is normally because your directories are too deep. Following the instructions in the thread you l...

HI Barry, The file in question is 9557K, which would be OK with a 10MB limit. However it seems to me that leaving everything under 10MB out of the archive folder would pretty much guarantee that not much of anything ever got sent to "archive". Other than video files, I don't think I have m...

Prevent a file from being sent to "archive"?

Ok, now that I've got a multisession puppy Cd working on my laptop, I've encountered a small problem. I installed firefox, and using the -D option in the rc.reboot file, everything burns and restored correctly, *except* for one little problem... The file "firefox-bin", which is the actual ...

MS puppy won't boot after first time? Solution!

OK, if you've read this thread, you know that I've got a laptop which refuses to boot a multisession CD after the first time. Actually, it won't boot any bootable CD if the cd has more than one track on it. (This is definately an issue with my CD drive, not with puppy. Experimentation has confirmed ...

Flash, I've searched the web and come up with some firmare updates for my model drive, but they seem to be manufacturer specific (meaning, they seem to be associated with the company which manufactured the laptop, rather than the specific drive). I'm courageous (i.e. "foolhardy") enough to...

I will chime in with the "let's have wine" crowd as well. While "fast" is a tenet of puppy philosophy ("small" is not mentioned in the mission statement, btw), I think item 7 in the mission statement is at least as important, if not more: Puppy will have all the applica...

i too have found that with certain USB keys I had to download and use Syslinux 2.11 or earlier, because a later one wouldn't render the key bootable. (Let me rephrase that...I have always assumed it was the fault of the key that it required syslinux 2.11, but thinking about it now, it could be the b...

have you tried adding it to

etc/rc.d/rc.local

? The file is run at boot, and it is writeable.

Not sure if it might be too early/late in the boot process for you, though. Give it a shot.
