Thanks for the encouragement Aitch because I feel completely out of my depth with this, I am sure it is related to puppy because if I load DSL I get a normal screen throughout the booting whereas with puppy the screen goes blank and I get no indication of whats happening.

using Humax 19dtt monitor/tv solved
I have got the humax working satisfactorily by saving puppy to a usb drive with xvesa on a separate pc, when I load this into the humax as always I get the error message on screen and the screen goes blank for 3 minutes I get puppy on screen at a reasonable resolution.

I have loaded DSL on my old pc using the Humax LGB-19DTT and it loads fine, when I try to load puppy I just get a screen message 'invalid mode' then nothing, I get no chance to adjust the screen resolution. How to format a secondhand (XP) hard disk drive?
I have a spare hard drive and I wish to run puppy on it, at the moment it has a faulty windows xp on it.
