Thanks for the encouragement Aitch because I feel completely out of my depth with this, I am sure it is related to puppy because if I load DSL I get a normal screen throughout the booting whereas with puppy the screen goes blank and I get no indication of whats happening.

using Humax 19dtt monitor/tv solved

I have got the humax working satisfactorily by saving puppy to a usb drive with xvesa on a separate pc, when I load this into the humax as always I get the error message on screen and the screen goes blank for 3 minutes I get puppy on screen at a reasonable resolution.

This is the reply I got from Humax.

This model will work up to the following resolution

1024x768 (WXGA, 60Hz)

You may need to contact Linux for advice on using this TV as a monitor with there operating system.

So I am no nearer.(apologies for being unable to clear the problem)

I have loaded DSL on my old pc using the Humax LGB-19DTT and it loads fine, when I try to load puppy I just get a screen message 'invalid mode' then nothing, I get no chance to adjust the screen resolution. I have posted this using DSL. Is there a version of puppy that wil override this invalid mode...

I have found by trial and error that some versions of puppy will work by waiting until the cd stops and then pressing escape. Has anyone else any suggestions.

Or on a LU23-TD1 that I borrowed I am sending this post from DSL mounted on this Humax LU23-TD1
If I cannot get puppy to run I shall have to use DSL. much to my regret.

How to format a secondhand (XP) hard disk drive?

I have a spare hard drive and I wish to run puppy on it, at the moment it has a faulty windows xp on it.
Whenever I have attempted this in past I have always cocked it up.
I have looked a all the help lines but cannot find a 'simple' answer

I launched alsa mixer from the consul
I got
Alsamixer Augigy 2 ZS SB 0350
Chip Sigma Tel STAC 9570,51
View [Play back] Capture All
Item Master [dB gain=6.00

I set master volume to 100

But no sound from the speakers

I ran as you said and alsa recognised -emu10k1 but no sound came from sound card.

I have disabled the audio the game port on board midi
I ran ALSA sound.
But I still get nothing when running puppy.
