This could possibly be of use. I have a ext4 partition on my laptop with several frugal installations of various Puppy versions. Some years ago I installed Firefox by the somewhat unconventional method of downloading the latest region specific version tar.bz2 from the Mozilla ftp site and compiling ...

Thanks for your thoughts Oscar. I checked out retrovol.desktop in autostart which did contain the line Exec=retrovol -hide so it was evidently bypassing this command somehow. It then occurred to me that the Tahrpup installation on my laptop has retrovol behaving normally, so I checked /root/.config/...

Hi Musher, a happy new year to you and thanks for replying to my post. However, your reply has deepened the mystery. I opened retrovol-tray in Geany and found it to be identical, line for line, as in your example screenshot. I know it's no big problem, just close the Retrovol window and carry on, bu...

How do I put Retrovol back in its box? [Solved]

Frugal installation of Tahrpup 6.0 on Advent netbook. For reasons unknown Retrovol has started opening on the desktop at startup. Have been digging around looking for a file containing a startup script for Retrovol. No luck so far and my knowledge of the inner workings of Puppy is lacking. can anyon...

Hi Barkin. I seem to remember Firefox around version 16 or 17 still not updating for me. At version 19 I downloaded and unpacked the .tar.gz from Mozilla FTP and this has been updating ever since and is now at 31.1.1. Pelo, thanks for the info it will save me wasting time trying to get Chrome to upd...

How do I get Google Chrome to update?[Solved]

Why are internet browsers included in Puppy distros and .pets crippled in some way? I assume it is something to do with usage restrictions on the full release versions of open source apps. I started using Firefox a while back with various versions of Puppy but they always seemed to be Nightly, Auror...

Command synclient -l gives the same old story: "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?" Xorg.0.log shows that the synaptics driver does load.:- [ 20.367] (II) LoadModule: "synaptics" [ 20.369] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so [ 20...

@ ocpaul20 Thanks for the link. Have not found much there that helps unfortunately. In my last post I said that flSynclient wasn't finding Synaptics properties in all my frugally installed Puppies but I forgot to try Fatdog64 where it works fine. Had a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log in a couple of diff...

Where's my synaptics gone?

Have been trying out RG66's X-precise and X-slacko on my new laptop and found that double tap and drag using the touchpad doesn't work. Double tap to open files & folders works fine. All touchpad functions ok in X-precise non-PAE version. I tried to play around with the touchpad parameters with ...

Try Xfce's "Mouse and Touchpad" in Control panel > hardware and see if that works. Tried that already but there doesn't seem to be any adjustment that affects the behaviour I described. Regarding the problem finding synaptics properties, this is not confined to x-precise, it happens using...

Over the last couple of years I have been trying various breeds of Puppy to find one that suits both me and my laptop so I can kick my Microsoft dependency into touch. I really like X-precise 2.1.1 so far plus every other PAE enabled Pup I have tried has produced an unusual amount of processor activ...

I get something similar if I use Lucid 5.28 on my desktop computer. Next time Windows XP is booted, it will connect to the wireless LAN but not to the WAN so no internet connectivity. Even a cold boot doesn't fix it. Simply removing the USB wireless adapter for a few seconds then plugging it back in...

The way I am working, FF doesn't touch the savefile. I How do you accomplish such a clever thing? It's not so clever. I just use Google to search for Puppy threads concerning savefile usage. The forum search never works too well for me. Maybe you don't use Slacko 5.4 or 5.5? I mentioned previously ...

What is your take on it. Are the FF19 so much more secure that it is important that I go for it? Well being a bit of a noob myself I may be talking rubbish but I would have thought the difference in security between FF17 & 19 isn't worth worrying about so I would keep your FF17 setup. Addons li...

I test it and report back. I guess it will make me loose all bookmarks and extensions and passwords and all of it again. Nooby, I think it has been more straightforward for me as I was experimenting in a clean first time frugal installation of racy 5.5 with Seamonkey removed from the racy_5.5.sfs file. There was no previous Firefox installation to confuse things and it just worked ok with no problems.

Semme I get same result as Makoto told you about. It has since updated itself twice and as o...
