Thanks for the link.

This time, using the Internet Connection Wizard instead of Simple Network Setup seems to have helped.

rjbrewer , that's not it: Puppy is the only one of several devices who is unable to connect to my network, so the problem is with Puppy. When I tried configuring it using the Network Wizard, I got it working, but dhcpcd didn't start. Then I tried to start it manually and got an error message saying...

[Solved] Error connecting to a wireless network

Hello all, When I first installed Puppy it successfully connected to my wireless network, but later this error suddenly appeared, and I don't know what could have caused it: " DHCP client failed to negotiate with wireless network". I didn't change any network-related settings in Puppy and ...

Too early did I mark this question as solved. Although Midnight Commander has started to display some pseudagraphics, but still not all of them. For example, if I start it with the "darkfar" skin: mc --skin=darkfar which contains double lines, pseudagraphics are replaced with letters. It i...

Thanks for tip, Bruce, And I edit ~/.bashrc so it doesn't run /etc/profile each time you open a terminal emulator But I wonder who (or what) is going to call it if not .bashrc? How will I set the PS1 variable, the console font, keymap and so on? I am currently doing it in profile.loacal, which in tu...

I cannot make a screenshot of my text-mode virtual terminal. the leftmost 2 squares display correctly in terminal too Is it that what you want or not? No idea what pseudo graphics are, but I know some UTF-8 Sorry, I didn't understand you. Yes. Pseudagraphics are those characters like U2502, U2551 a...

Hello, Bruce, and many thanks. Yes, that did it. Now have to configure my profile.local (right?) to set the TERM variable correctly for both text-mode and GUI. And I had spent so much time tinkering with the SFM table... MC works correctly now, but FreePascal's IDE seems to be accessing pseudographi...

I mean a text-mode virtual terminal, like the one you can switch to using Ctrl-Alt-F2, not a graphical terminal emulator like on your screenshot.

Pseudographics in text-mode terminal

Hello all, I can't get pseudagraphics to display correctly in textmode terminals, although it does work correctly in the X terminal emulator. I don't see any pseudagraphics mapping in the keymap, obtained using dumpkeys, and two programs -- Midnight Commander and FreePascal IDE -- don't display pseu...

Surely. Or simply rename it. I don't know (and will look into it) what .deb packages are and I was expecting them to handle the initial setup automatically, like setting up the environment, creating symlinks e.t.c.

Hello, Bruce and stu90, and thank you for your feedback. I had started writing this post when stu90's reply arrived. Yes, indeed. I manually "undebbed" the package and found that the binary is called vim.basic. Under the same name it was copied to my bin directory. I never would have thoug...

[solved] Problem installing Debian packages

Hello all, I have tried installing the Vim Debian package and couldn't find where main binary file went. The following entries were created: /usr/share/doc/vim /usr/share/bug/vim But no binary file seems to have been installed. Same problem with the TADS3 package, which also said it had created an e...
