I hate to admit it but I've dug out an old Vista machine which is working with my phone, it just takes forever to do anything. Haven't yet plucked up the courage to put the new operating system on the phone yet tho!

Thanks Bigpup, followed that process and. I can see the phone and read the files on it. When I activate Android File Transfer I get nothing.

How did you start the programme? I have unpacked it into usr/bin, can open most of the files, just not obvious how to start.

I have just noticed that the icon (little cardboard box) next to the files that I have downloaded to transfer to the phone are all much darker than other files where the icon is lighter.

OK, have downloaded this Transfer protocol, all seems to have gone well, connected phone by USB, can see the phone and sd card but when I fire up MTP there is no indication that its running or indications on how to interact with it. As has been commented elsewhere - strange there is not a Linux file...

Yes, I'm using an SD carrier and no it doesn't have a lock facility on it, altho it may have had one, I think there is a slot for one.

Right, gave that a go and Gparted came up with msge "Can't write to mmcblk0p1 because it is open read only.

Tried ignoring this in Gparted but that didn't work. How do I overcome the read only issue?
