Hi Fred, Thanks for the response. I checked and you are correct about the /tmp directory with porteus and live. Strange thing is that in porteus, aufs won't overlay any of my physical hdd's either. I spent some time today playing with all of the hdd's and controller unplugged, as the startup time wi...

Hi Fred, that fixed it thanks. I have almost worked out what is locking up when I try to boot "Devuan-live-boot-3 in RAM persistence". It is something to do with the copy to ram option. I'm not sure what it is and I'm not going to bother any more as it seems that the persistence works diff...

I guess the cat is out of the bag now ... or should that be Pussy? Thanks for the shameless plug sickgut, it is genuinely appreciated. For those who are interested, my project with saintless is now at what we consider a "Developer Release". This means that we've got it sorted and are...

I did some extensive benchmarking on quite a few USB thumb drives last year. The performance difference between different brands is staggering. Some of the biggest and supposedly most professional brands are often the slowest in both read and write. The one product that shone was the Corsair Voyager...

Meh. No offense guys, but there's so many things wrong with the words used here and in the pages linked to, it is obvious to me that even with my 35 years experience as a professional Electronics Engineer, I know nothing.

Hi sickgut, thanks. My absence (silence) over the last 6-8 weeks has been due to work more than anything else. I've still got a tough 1-2 weeks ahead, then hopefully things will return to normal and I may have a bit of time. Hi SBP, running entirely from the USB/CF was/is one of my key requirements....

Hi Folks, Sorry this has taken a while since saintless first made reference to the fact that we are working on our own build, although given Sickguts recent announcement, it is probably appropriate that I give you a brief heads-up as to what we are trying to do. Before doing so, I would like to stat...

linux mint might suit you if you are looking for nice documentation Been there. Done that. Mint has the same basic issue as puppy and *nix in general. From what I understand, it's too big/inefficient with its QT requirements in this project - unless I guess a suite of QT apps were included to make it more-or-less cost-effective. G'day Puppyt, well you can decide. I made what I call a .sqf "injection" file for QupZilla (complete with the...

G'day, A serious yet stupid question. If you have a computer with a Hard Drive, why would you bother with something like puppy/pussy and all of the hoops/issues associated with .sqf files? For me, I intend to use a completely USB or Flash based configuration - for those who understand electronics/co...
