Script wanted to backup my Windows partiton
Seeing as Puppy can boot up and see my Winpoop drives as data drives it seems a natural to use as an imaging backup utility. I don't speak Linux so forgive me if the following is rubbish. I know that the "dd" command will make and restore an image, right? dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dev/sda1/mybac...

Oh bad idea
Very nice but IMHO a bad idea for the average person coming from Winblows. The main idea behind Linux is that it *isn't* windows. This addon kinda destroys that idea. If a Linux noobee sat down at that interface he/she would be complaining that this copy of "Windows" was all messed up. A n...

Super Flying browser
If you want to see a webbrowser fly (yeah, like Seamonkey doesnt already) download Swiftfox (http://getswiftfox.com/) and then go to http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1299854/posts to get instructions on how to optimize it. The good thing is that you can just unarchive the file and run it fro...

The bark is gone again
After Pup2 installs he loses the bark.
Searched /etc/profile for the bark line to uncomment it like I use to do in pup1 but it's not there that I can find anyway.

Best Puppy logo
> It had something like "This is the logo for PuppyOS". Now it states
> "This is a logo for Puppy, also known as Puppy Linux and PuppyOS".
I'm glad it's not *the* logo because I like this one the most

Maybe in a decade or so, the rest of the world will catch up. Then we will need 20GB of ram so we can load the big OSes into ram Would you settle for a 4Gig Ram board that looks like a HDD? http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2006q1/gigabyte-iram/index.x?pg=1 Now THAT would be great for testing distr...

KDE way faster
I've been playing around with different Linuxes and noticed that in Puppy KDE is **WAY** faster. Why? It's loading off the hard drive not RAM isn't it? Why is it 50 times faster than Mandriva's KDE or Ubuntu's KDE? Is Puppy's KDE the "real" KDE? Just for fun I'd like to "bloat" i...

Puppy saves the day again!
Playing with all these Linuxes I farkled the partiton table on my external drive. Partition Tragic couldn't handle it. Mandriva (installed on HDA) couldn't handle it. Ubuntu (installed on HDA) couldn't handle it. Puppy, (Live RAM-resident boot disk) COULD handle it. I had to redo the entire drive bu...

How to delete Windows, resize Puppy partition?
Puppy has so many features and makes a perfect rescue CD since it loads all in RAM. I wonder if it can fix an error I made recently that is going to cause me grief in the future. Right now my system is dual boot (actually tri-boot!) with Winblows on HDA1 and Ubuntu with Puppy inside it on HDA5. When...

Sound test for Pup 2.0
Well, 1.08 installed and came up like a dream. That "woof" after the sound setup is cute. I have a thought for Version 2 though.
Barry, instead of "woof" how about a certain Puppy author's voice saying "Welcome to Puppy Linux, mate" and then maybe the "woof".

That was me. Keep forgetting to log in. Litrix (and others) are for Ubuntu backdrop and the gull (only the gull) is for Puppy. Reminds me that I'm in Puppy and to do things carefully and differently. Besides, it's well done. It's simple It has good colors so the text and icons stand out. The left si...

An observation re: command line interface vs. GUI
When I first started using Linux apps, especially Puppy apps, I use to think "How simple. How primitive. A TEXT display??? How 1980's can you get?" Well, just now I noticed that the CD burner with the "primitive text display" kept the write buffer at 98%. My Winblows burner usual...

Puppy 2 Install compatable?
When Pup2 is done is he going to be install compatable? I mean having the same 3 files (vmlinuz, usercram and image.gz) and reading the existing .sfs files so I can just copy them over my old ones (poor man's install) and be good to go. Will I have to delete my pup001 and start over?
