Ahh okay. I've definitely narrowed the issue down specifically to Emerald itself. XFCE works just fine by itself, but as soon as Compiz is installed (which uses Emerald), the window borders disappear. If only I could find a way to NOT use Emerald. The applications you want to remove are in the puppy sfs file. This file is read only. To remove those programs a remaster can be done, so another puppy sfs is created without these programs. But I fail to see why you would like to remove those programs. Oh read only? Rats. I don't have a CD burner...

Slowness can occur from reading the .sfs from the CD (so copy it to the HDD, next to your pupsave, which is much faster). And slowness or instabilities will occur when you become memory-bound.
