Well, everyone has been great, and gotten me out of a pinch on this machine. I now have some good options to consider. I'll have to mull this over.
Thanks again for all the help!

Thanks for responding so quickly! Wow, you guys are on top of things! rcrsn51 - I have both. A wireless one that came from the seller, and an el-cheapo USB one from Inland. Neither work at the GRUB menu, but they both function OK when fully booted. Flash - I'm following one of the threads you recomm...

How to edit GRUB from Puppy Live CD?
Hi - I'm still a newbie, but learning by stumbling around with Puppy and Ubuntu. But I have a problem with a second-hand computer that's not properly booting up from GRUB. It's got Win 7 and a couple linux distros including one for an HTPC (XBMC Live). GRUB's been set to allow a choice, but it won't...

Update: Operation Complete, Patient Recovering
Hi Guys - Wanted to give you all an update ... I completed all the various steps to get at that little bugger of a battery, and then reversed all the steps. Pretty fun, actually. Let's hope it really works. I have to let the battery charge overnight before I can test. Thanks for the idea and encoura...

Various
@cthisbear - The full power down and drain didn't help this time. I think may battery is pretty much dead anyway, so probably isn't holding a charge at all. @lobster - Ok, Ok. Let me see if I can find my b*lls laying around here somewhere. It'll be at least a few days since I'm traveling for work. T...

Trying to get up the nerve ...
Thanks for the suggestions, dealing with battery issues makes sense. In fact when I was repurposing this laptop I realized the CMOS battery wasn't holding a charge and causing some BIOS settings to be lost. I ordered a replacement battery on eBay and got ready to swap it out. Then I looked at the in...

Is my puppy dead?
Hi Everyone - I'm pretty new to the forums but have been running Puppy happily for about 2 years on a very old Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. Grabbed the lappie before my sister-in-law could throw it out, and my grade- and pre-schoolers were having fun with it. Latest, I have been running Puppy 5.11 fro...

Still mysterious
Thanks, everyone for the ideas. Even after lots of helpful support I'm thinking the troubles are being caused by a strange setup on this company computer (domains and strange names, security, etc). I'm going to throw in the towel and use a better solution, a direct mapping to my full-time HTPC which...

Tried pnethood and YASSM but no joy
Hi Everyone - Thanks for the suggestions and being able to review the efforts of others on this issue. I've tried a couple of different approaches without much success. I bet it's something simple that I'm messing up somewhere. To make sure my XP laptop is setup properly, I was able to set the c:\te...

How to share drives and folders in home network?
Hi - I'm a Linux newbie and suspect there is a straightforward approach to this, but I wasn't able to find it by searching and browsing the forum posts. I'm using my Puppy (5.11) laptop for movie downloads because my company laptop is configured to not allow installing torrent clients. I've been tra...

Well, rebooted a couple times to test the entry in the sns_connections_available file, hoping to come up once with the wireless connection dropped. Sure enough, three reboots and then no wireless. Sns_connections_available shows network name, the key and encryption type, but no wireless connection. ...

@ Beem I'm using Puppy 5.10 and running from Live CD. @ BarryK I can see the sns_connections_available file, and there is an entry for my network, the encryption type and the key. When I booted up the machine tonight I had lost the connection again, so I needed to enter the key again into SNS. Findi...

SNS :Simple Network Setup Loses Key and Connection [SOLVED]
Hi - I'm a newbie and have really appreciated the Puppy Community and all the great work on a distro that helped me get an old Dell lappie working for my grade-schooler's homework. Problem is, the setup information I enter into SNS appears to get lost and then the computer can't connect to the inter...
