Partitioning Hard Drive
Generally it is best to install Windows first and then to shrink the Disk space from within Windows to make room for the extra partitions that you want. Puppy is best installed frugally and that means that it can coexist with Ubuntu, etc. That means as long as you have another partition than you are...

Metal Case USB stick
Had a look at e-buyer and saw these that are metal cased. They are USB 2 but the higher capacity ones are USB 3. https://www.ebuyer.com/341029-kingston-16gb-datatraveler-se9-usb-flash-drive-dtse9h-16gb They are cheap enough to try. I am not so keen using a USB stick plugged straight into my laptop w...

Never, ever, had any issues such as you describe.
Is Puppy installed on the HD and if so is it the recommended frugal installation?
Suggest you mount all the partitions that you can and use the Search Programme to find the missing files. If you have been saving them, then they should be somewhere.

Connecting Power to Raspberry Pi
When I got one of the original Raspberry Pi's I had trouble getting power to it. The supply was OK but there was too much resistance at the connector. It led to unreliable operation. So I striped one end of a USB cable and soldered the power supply wires to two pins on the underside of the GPIO conn...

Viewing the Save File
I used to prefer a full install but as experienced has shown me, frugal is best and you can do all you want in it. With regard to your need, "it feels better for me to have all the files visible from the root". You can see all the files in Puppy with a frugal install. Frugal installation f...

NVIDIA
Haven't got a NVIDIA card and so cannot reproduce your situation. However, looking at the PPM I see that it is getting this driver straight from Ubuntu Bionic and that installation may not be so straightforward since Puppy Bionic is different and there is no guarantee that Ubuntu Bionic's programmes...

TV Viewing
Bit puzzled about your setup. You have Puppy, Xenialpup64-7.5, installed on what - a PC underneath the TV. You have an Arkmicro USB TV stick that you have plugged into the PC or set top box? If it is plugged into a PC with Linux then do a dmesg unplug it and plug it in again and do dmesg again to se...

Solving HDMI sound
The Linux kernel sees both the analogue and the HDMI hardware. I am puzzled why you cannot get sound out of the HDMI port. If I were you I would try a different Puppy or and a Fatdog. It should work without the addition of separate drivers since those should be in the kernel. It will be easiest to t...

Programmes for Puppy
Looking at your List of Requirements: "browse, hold an office suite, run a vpn, and a virus scan. Also be able to be backed up". 1. All Puppies and Fatdog have Browsers and with many you can add others such as Chrome, etc. 2. Puppies and Fatdog have an Office suit (normally Libre Office) o...

Puppy can do what you want
Puppies and its relation Fatdog are designed to run from a USB stick or a DVD so no worries about that. They are different than normal Linux Distros in that on the USB stick you only need a small number of files. There are the basic ones that "get Puppy going" and then there is a "sav...

HDMI Sound
Your PCs have two hardware ways of getting sound out. They are via the 3.5 mm analogue socket and also via the digital HDMI socket which provides both the display and the sound. With your VGA and 3.5 mm socket way of getting what you want in the Office you are going the analogue way and your Puppy h...

Another Option - Try VLC
If you can install VLC then it has sound selection button.
I use MythTV on a Ubuntu Base and for that to work, I have a command to detect the TV switching on and that triggers a Display Manager restart. This triggers the handshake between the TV and the PC to get a display AND the sound.

No Sound on HDMI
Sound on HDMI is a common problem on Windows and Linux. It is best to power up with the HDMI TV on so that Puppy (or any Linux) can see it and know it is there.
Can you look at the Sound Wizard because you should be able to select the Sound Card there.

Acer ZG5
As it happens, I have an Acer ZG5 that admittedly, I don't use so much these days. It was the netbook that I used when travelling and was extremely good and did everything I needed. When the battery life was an annoyance, I bought cheap 7800 mAh ones and on powering it up now see that it still holds...

You certainly have a powerful machine compared to any of mine. Puppy loads into RAM and runs from there which makes it fast and nimble. So for instance opening Abiword is virtually is less than a second. Running all those programmes you have including converting media is RAM intensive and so you sho...

Booting Ubuntu and Puppy
For a more trouble free dual boot, I have given in and let Grub2 boot Puppy. If you let Ubuntu (or any other Linux Distro) do an update it often replaces the boot loader with Grub2 which ignores your frugal installs. I add my Puppy additions to Grub2 in two Ubuntu places: /etc/grub.d/40_custom where...

Best action is to just make a copy of the important documents from your Home Folder and forget the installation. You can of course use Clonezilla https://clonezilla.org/ for the whole HD or Partions or if you want an even more compact set of files you could use http://www.fsarchiver.org/ The dd meth...

I have noticed that the John Lewis site used for modification instructions of the Chromebook BIOS is not working any more. There is another MrChromebox.tech site that has replaced it and seems very comprehensive, but I have not needed to try it myself. It is https://mrchromebox.tech/#fwscript
