Can any Puppy Linux run on Mavericks?
I have tried to get running on my new Macbook Air: o Macpup [550] o Fatdog64 [rc2] o Slacko 5.5 with the following results: 1. Macpup: I get a Grub prompt line. Upon entering characters for the prompt, the cursor advances with each character typed, but the character image does not appear on the line...

Well, my learning curve on the Macbook Air is distinctly visible. I had thought that, in addition to the hard drive images, the two disk images present upon startup with Option held down was for the intended boot method. It seems to instead reference the general source. Using option makes Fatdog64, ...

Fatdog64-630rcs on Macbook Air hangs in Grub2
When I boot Fatdog64-630rc2 on Macbook Air 6.2 (late 2013), it reaches the screen with only the Fatdog logo visible at top right, then hangs. On my Windows machine, it boots OK into the OS, but not on mac. Both are 64 bit machines. On an earlier occasion it had worked on the mac when I was trying to...

Multisession Lupu CD won't boot
Although the slacko puppy on my desktop is working fine, I am trying to set up a music server using an Optiplex s x270 which I bought on ebay. I chose Lupu-5.2.8 because elsewhere there are full instructions on how to use it to set up a share which may be recognized by my Sonos system. The disk is n...

How to delete an .iso file which was downloaded?
The file resides on an NTFS windows directory. I am uncertain as to whether it had been downloaded using Windows, or Puppy, since I am using both. Firefox had been used either way as the download agent. Windows is W7, Puppy is slackware 5.5. I am superuser, and home directory is root. Attempted to d...

How may I confirm my installation type?
Is there some place to look at after boot to confirm whether the installation is Full or Frugal? I had been thinking it was Full, but although it is on a hard drive, it might just have wound up as Frugal without my being aware of it. When installing, I had provided a 65G ext2 partition, and also a l...

How to make 'find' not search the Windows partition?
I am running slacko5.5 installed as a full install. My Windows partition is /mnt/sda3. I was trying to tailor a 'find' to search only the linux part of the file space. I know I can do that by unmounting sda3, but that is inconvenient very often. In constructing the 'find' it seemed to me that either...

Eclipse IDE
Is there any plan or intent to package up eclipse Juno 64-bit for slacko 5.5? Or 64-bit in general? That is what I wish to use currently. Earlier I had been using the Galileo version under Windows, but I am now trying to transition to Linux (and Puppy) At some future time after I know more about Pup...

Wine says Gecko package is missing.
While using wine-1.5.22 on slacko5.5, I clicked upon Help for a program. The response was from Wine to the effect that it cannot find the gecko package. PPM says that gmtk-1.0.8b-i486 is already installed, but that gmtk-1.0.7 exists and could be installed, but that it is not recommended. How might I...

Background the same for all 3 desktops? Disappointment.
Although I am quite a newcomer to Puppy, I have worked upon quite a large number of Operating Systems, and Unix/Linux derivatives which support multiple desktops. Now I am here, running Slacko 5.5. Mostly I have things set up more-or-less the way I want them thanks to the excellent advice I've recei...

Getting 'make', gcc, and various things for C development.
I am trying to compile Crafty, a chess engine + interface for linux, or so the docs say. No emulation using wine. When entering 'make' resulted in "Command not found", I was surprised. Further searching revealed the post indicating that development files are not automatically included. I a...

Cannot read bash fonts.
I am running a full installation of slacko.5.5. The default fonts are too small, but 'too small' does not tell the complete story. When I do 'man xxx' and a Die web page comes up, although that font is smaller, it is so crisp and contrasty that I can read it just fine. Also, many recommendation to t...

Installing an .sfs file on a full installation of slacko-5.5
I read whatever I could, downloaded the sfs, and proceeded to "...mount an xterm on it", whatever that meant. In so doing, I clicked upon the .sfs file in a ROX-filer window. Unexpectedly a little window opened offering "View Contents", or "Install". I chose "View ...

How to add an item to Puppy's Menu? (Solved)
I have installed a game in my non-frugal puppy, slack0 5.5, which is on hard disk. The game seems to work. Although I do understand that it might be better to make a .pet of it, one has to crawl before walking. Right now, I'd like to place an entry for it on the Fun menu.
Thank You.
