I have puppy (frugal) and haiku booting on my laptop. Haiku is on a BeFS partition (which Gparted doesn't recognize and Pdisk sees as a Linux partition #83). The relevant lines in my menu.lst are: # Other bootable partition config begins title haiku rootnoverify (hd0,5) chainloader +1 # Other bootab...

Ahmet Ertegun; what an interesting guy. I see your point Dewbie but still feel he was an exception rather than the rule; even the article about him seems to imply this. How many of today's music-industry execs do you suppose are like this? None, which makes your original statement true! And how many...

Dewbie wrote music-industry executives of the past generally viewed their product as art I don't think so. I'm assuming I'm older and cynicaler  than you, Dewbie, but my experience has been that executives (in any industry) are only concerned with the saleability of a product. In past decades a...

raffy wrote Maybe a big owl (night bird) ate him, but more likely, it was a python I think the owls in Oz do not prey on animals this size. Most owls in Oz are smaller than the average chihuahua. As to the python: probably not. If she was attacked by a snake it would have been more likely to have be...

I looked on google too but cant see what kind of touchpad you have. Some things you could try: -boot without the usb mouse plugged in and see if your touchpad is recognized. -if you can still boot xubuntu then have a look at its xorg.conf file and see if it has information about your touchpad. -try ...

DMcCunney wrote And Gates did not kill BeOS Oh yes he did. He used monopolistic practices to force computer manufacturers to only put Windows on their machines and this stopped BeOS being provided free on new machines. Imagine how different the face of computing would be if people had had a choice b...

DNS are kept in /etc/resolv.conf.
You can edit it to add the DNS nameservers you want although the file may be overwritten at each boot.

I was wondering about the dot in the middle of Oz. Too low to be Alice Springs so may be Coober Pedy. Be nice to them if it is because Coober Pedy is the kind of place they put a stick of dynamite thru your front door if they don't agree with you (as the editor of the local paper found out once).
