Still getting the warning to move my files, so I did - I moved the actual files to /root where previously they were just symlinked - completely on the ext4 partition the rest of my (Xenial) puppy is. Still getting the warning. I think I'm entitled to my own little rant now: My main use for dropbox f...

I'm running Puppy in an ext4 partition with dropbox symlinked to where the folder is in ntfs (so if I go into windows I can have dropbox running there as well). That should be okay right? But I still get the warning that it will stop syncing in November. So I read the article on linuxuprising (above...

Hi gcmartin, I wasn't worried about adding a new rdp server to the host, as the one built into Windows is fine. I just wanted to know how to leave the sound at the Windows htpc host so I could listen to music over my home theatre system from Premote on my laptop. And I answered my own question by us...

Thanks for Premote William! Had a look at DoMyFile and I probably will use it occasionally for fiddling with media files. Another trick I worked out to save me getting up off my couch more often than I need to is that I put a sleep shortcut on my Windows desktop so that I can suspend it from Premote...

Remote Desktop Question (Solved)
Hi, here I am, still using Puppy as my main everyday os after 10 years. She's a beauty! I do however use Windows for my htpc as I can get the sound more how I like it. I've been using Premote to do stuff on the htpc from my Puppy laptop, partly because using the air mouse is a bit limited, plus also...

Making firefox portable
Hi. I've been trying to have my firefox profile in my home directory instead of root, but none of the instructions I've read here or elsewhere seem to have helped. Whatever I do Firefox just keeps putting my profile in /root/.mozilla/firefox So I had a look at how to create a new profile pointing to...

Which 24-bit sound card to buy for home theater pc?
I'm currently using my pc as a media player and I'd like to beef the sound up to 24-bit. Can ALSA easily detect my hardware and set my sound up for 24-bit? Or do I need to choose my sound card carefully and get advice from the community?

I got Python 2.x running with the devx file okay, but I couldn't work out how to do code in a separate window like using Idle in Windo$e.
So I ended up downloading Active Python. It includes Idle, which is what I started learning on so I'll stick with that for now.

I got the version ( capital V ) by typing: python -V And I got help with: python --help Perl`s in there too. I`m running Puppy511 with the devx file. Thanks Sunburnt. I'm running 511 too. I'll get the devx file. (I wanted to be sure because like Barry I'm on satellite broadband which is very lean o...

Getting Started with Python
Hi, I'm just at the start of trying to learn programming, and Python is my first language. I started by installing Python-3.pet, but when I tried executing a .py file in Geany I got an "invalid python installation" error. I tried to find more stuff I needed to put on my computer, but info ...

All my hard drives are in the computer. Occasionally I need my storage drive while the machine is running, so the bios idea and the usb idea won't suit. Maybe later I'll put it into a NAS, but it's in the pc for now. I tried to ask my original question without admitting that I use Windoze, but now I...

Turning off hard drives
Hi. I have a main storage drive that I don't normally need when the computer is running. It seems to come up very quickly when I mount it, as if it's already running. Can I change it to not be running?
