Had to use "hwclock -w"
The following worked for me: 1) set timezone with Menu>Desktop>Set Timezone 2) set the date & time with the date command 3) sync hwclock to system clock with "hwclock -w" example setting date to July 20, 10:45pm ( try "man date" for details): date 07202245 hwclock -w Backward...

Thank you - somehow I missed that there were replies to this. I'll check those links out. I was incredibly impressed with KDE when I got it from megapuppy, but it had a few oddities on my system and then stopped working, which I never did figure out. I've tried installing it myself only to get nowhe...

gtkam problems - missing libs + crashes when installed
Last night I tried upgrading to gtkam 0.1.13. First I found I was missing various dependencies. Once I fixed those I ran into segmentation faults. It all seemed to work fine with the exception of saving the pictures from the camera, which is the whole point, after all. Here's the part I'd like help ...

Thanks once more - I had failed in searching the forum, probably because I was running on no sleep. Still not much, but here I am, back at the computer. Puppy is more fun than sleeping, after all :) I admit I've resorted to asking for help quicker (as in after less searching for answers myself) rece...

Networking/sharing files with xp?
Ok, this should be easy -but I'm just not sure what I should be looking for" I need to conveniently move files between the two computers: an xp and a puppy 2.11. Is there a sharing method that makes more sense than ftp?
Thank you
Thank you

KDE? What is current best approach?
Mark's megapuppy from a while ago gave me my first tast of KDE. I fell totally in love. Only there were a few minor problems that appaered to only happen to me, stuff like various elements in the user interface showing up doubled: applications and files in lists would be listed twice, if at all. Sti...

It seems that the problem with the usb mouse was with that particular mouse. I found that I DID have the old one that used to work, and it works fine. The one I had trouble with is actually only half working on windows, something I didn't know until now. Running modprobe usbhid might at least find i...

Ended up getting a linksys BEFSR41. It was OVERPRICED for $40. Plugged in the power, the ethernet to the dsl modem and computer, then tried to call it up through the browser to configure it. Only the browser loaded with all the pages that were loaded when it was last closed, and the WORKED... as in ...

In the next few days I'll try to see what the problems might be - looks like I'm back online again once more but dont' trust it. I believe Burniso2cd would burn them, but only at 4x, way slower than the drive does otherwise. That is just a vague memory. Graveman doesn't even start right now - I know...

Hmmm, I will try this as well. The various cd burning software included have never worked for me, other than the command line version - puppy isn't running at the moment so don't remember the names. I have not tried the music cd burners, but none of the rest work properly, or at all. I keep forgetti...

More good info - thanks. I had assumed the wireless routers did NOT have ethernet ports in them, so had not looked. I don't see any need for wireless anytime soon for this place, but will see if it is not too much more. Fry's does have a return policy - any reason within 30 days as long as it is in ...

To make the idea of soldering a cable absolutely absurd it seems the only soldering iron here is one of those large heavy duty contractor types with two large wires meeting at the tip, rather than a precision pencil kind. It looks like it is meant to solder ship hulls together! I know those things a...

Re: Photoshop on puppy? Wine in general?
Norsiwel - I'll check out gimpshop... it may be close enough to allow me to follow the various photoshop instructions I keep running into online as I learn about image editing. I already dig gimp - it is great having a powerful free editor. I have read a few times about stuff that can't be done eleg...

Thanks for all the above advice. I found a router on craigslist for $6, and the guy also has an ergonomic (split) keyboard which he'll throw in for $3, and a couple of ethernet and power cables for free. This is GREAT! I need a new ergonomic keyboard because regular ones cause severe pain after just...

Well - THAT was a royal PITA - just when this forum seemed to be behaving - it lost contact w/database & I lost lengthy posting responce !! Yeah... I've learned the hard way. Actually, when I posted the question above it bugged out on me as well, so I hit backspace and it was still in my browse...

Mouse not working! Neither USB and ps/2 work :(
I moved for the second time in a couple of months. When I tried settting up my computer I found that the mouse refuses to work. I've tried both a ps/2 mouse and a USB mouse - neither are recognized, regardless of re-running xorgwizard as well as the keyboard and mouse wizard or control panel (don't ...

Ok, I must start by admitting that I am very ignorant about all things to do with networking, so while I often can figure out things for myself, or with a little nudging, in this case I don't know where to begin and would appreciate some basic newbie-ish level help. I'm staying for a few weeks at a ...

Photoshop on puppy? Wine in general?
One application I really miss is photoshop. Gimp is great, but photoshop is what I know better and many times I can't figure out how to do stuff in gimp. Plus gimp keeps crashing right when I've spent a long time tweaking important photos... yup, crashing on puppy. Haven't diagnosed that yet :( Is w...
