3G Modem
Hi all, Thought I would give 7.0.3 a go, had lots of problems with 7.0.1. After initial problems with set up boxes not being correctly displayed or titled I got 7.0.3 set up and installed on a USB dongle. However I am unable to get my Huawei E1750 USB modem to work. I tried both inserting the dongle...

Three ISP gives poor service in UK
Hi all, Is anybody else having problems getting on line with Three using one of their dongles. Service over the last month or so has been very patchy, sometimes no bother to not being able to get on line at all. Wary 5,3-"puppy_wary_5.3.sfs not found"-Update
Hi all,
Well neither the ATAHD file trick nor an Universal frugal install (twice) worked, all gave the same error message of:
"puppy_wary_5.3.sfs not found".
Have reverted back to Wary 5.2.2.

GB Keyboard
Hi All @jermimah Your first question has already been answered by Geoffery. Re Pupdial, I think this is a red herring. I remember on the install of 017 I tried to be more systematic and did a shut down at the start to create the safe file. Previously I probably set up my modem and pupdial before cre...

Loading onto an USB Dongel
Hi All @Lobster Is it the old permissions problem identified by Shinobar well over a year ago? Have you tried to run bootflash from the console? If it fails to run do as Shinobar says, change the permissions of /tmp by typing in the console: chmod -R 1777 /tmp and then try again with bootcamp. Cheers

Desktop Icons
Hi All I use an 3G USB modem so I need to go to the menu for pupdial, and I've installed Terryphi's Opera sfs so again I go to the menu for that. I have used the console and home desktop icons but it would not be a big deal to again go to the menu for these, so a clear desktop would be O.K. with me....

Hi all,
Thank you for your prompt action Jermimah.
I should have been more specific, however, I had just downloaded the 005 iso and you were posting about the next iso, I panicked hence my post. I was thinking about future isos.
Very Sorry.
Thanks again.

External USB 3G Modems
Hi all, Has anybody else noticed that in regular use external USB 3G modems now take appreciably longer to prepare themselves than in previous puppies? Since 5.1.103, I think, the initial set up of an USB 3G modem has been easier, you only need to tick the "external modem" box when running...

Frugal Installs
Hi all, This is my second attempt at this post, tried last night but the upload failed. @bigpup I concur with your comment re frugal updates. I tried an update of a frugal 511 install on my old Dell Latitude LS to 520. Did a pfix=ram boot, copied over the new files from 520 and edited the menu, lst f...

3G Modems
Hi all, @pakt' It is common for 3G modems to require to be used under Windows first, I think it is to facilitate registration of the modem by the the ISP. After the modem has been registered with the ISP then they can usually be used under Linux. When I use my Huawei E169G modem, I keep the PupDial ...
