I can't seem to find any way to get the perl PDL to run on my HP laptop. I was able to download the source from the perl.pdl.org and compile it and run in on my desktop, but the same procedures don't work on my laptop.
Has anyone put the PDL in a pet install file, or a handy sfs file?

Lucid Puppy Status
I love the Lucid Puppy 5.2.8. It's the only puppy that connected me well enough to a large enough archive pool that let me get all the routines I wanted installed. I was able to get many from the Debian archives with not too much effort. Is Lucid Puppy frozen at this point, or are more updates likely?

apt-get
I'm not familiar with what all it takes to build a Puppy derivative, but it seems that Puppy is very close to being spectacular. If one would build Puppy off of Debian, enough so that apt-get would work, then add in the wonderful Puppy scripts that work so well and the non-Debian apps that give flav...

Upgrade from 5.25 to 5.28 didn't update help files
When I booted my 5.25 to ram and copied the contents of the 5.28 iso to my boot directory and rebooted, the 5.28 system booted and recognized that my save file was form 5.25 and updated it. But, when I clicked on the help icon, I was shown the 5.25 help files instead of the 5.28 help files. I booted...

X11 forwarding with ssh
I tried enabling X11forwarding in the sshd_config after I installed the openssh-server, but that didn't seem to do it. I had to add the XauthLocation line to the end of the sshd_config, after I installed the auth package. Now I didn't look to see if there already was an auth in /usr/bin before I ins...

X11 clients with ssh
I've installed the openssh server pet package and set my root passwords in two puppy systems. I can log onto root of one from the other using: ssh -X -l root ipaddress. But I can't launch any X11 clients once I'm logged in. I also get the message: Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication da...

I've gotten it to work. I've seen posts on the passwd problem before, but never a solution. It's not only posted on about Puppy, but other distros as well. I'm not sure how it occurs, but I installed the util-linux package and that fixed it. I found reference to util-linux in one post and tried it. ...

ssh change passwd
I'm using Puppy 5.25, and trying to set my root password, but the passwd utility fails. It gives a pam_start failure. I had the same trouble on another computer, but managed to get it to work with some fumbling, but I can't remember how. Do I need to install something to get passwd to work. It won't...

I can't answer that. I also had installed qemu for an experiment, and that caused a lot more stuff to also be installed. I backed all that out too. Maybe something in one of those libs goofed it up. Here's my next question. I do ssh -X -l root ipaddress and provide the password and I'm logged in. Bu...

The sshd_config looks ok.
I found that I had installed both openssh and openssh server. I removed them both, re-installed the server, and now, as you say, it works.
Thanks a bunch for all the help.

The Puppy system is lupu puppy 5.25. I'm trying to ssh from Debian. I removed all my ssh keys on Debian and tried again. When I enter the ssh -l root ip.address I'm asked for a password, then I get the message "Permission Denied." I can do ftp to the puppy system and give user as root and ...

Nope, it doesn't work. I changed the root password so I can ftp to puppy and login as root. But if I try to ssh as root, I get Permission Denied.

Here's my current situation: I use Debian on my largest desktop to do graphic work (for POD shirt designs) and webpage work. It has the speed, memory, and disk space for all of those functions. I also have an older 1GHZ 756MB desktop that I've switched to Puppy, after trying many distros. Puppy is l...

re ath9k
It seems that th pet file in installed also updated the ath9k (and other) driver. I suspect the driver since I run the same revision of Puppy on two other systems, one of which is also a wireless. The other wireless uses an rt2500 driver, not the ath9k. The rt2500 system works without failure. Also,...

re ath9k
I tried the pet file you listed for upgrading dhcpcd. Things seem to be much more responsive now, and it hasn't dropped in a few hours, much longer than before.
Thanks for the tip.
Now, to get the puppy maintainers of lucid puppy to include those fixes.

ath9k wirless driver
I love Puppy Linux, and I and my son use it on our desktops. But, as much as I want to use it on my HP CQ60-615DX notebook computer, I just can't get reliable service out of the ath9k wireless driver. I first encountered the problem back with puppy 4.3 (I think it was), and have tried 5.11, and now ...

compaq cq-615dx sound failure
I've tried about all the kernels in the puppy431 folder. It seems that kernels prior to 2.30.5 will setup the sound, but the ath9k wifi driver is absent. In the new kernel, the ath9k driver is there (and mostly works), but the sound doesn't work. I guess I'll have to make out with xubuntu until the ...

hp compaq cq60-615dx no sound device
I tried the special 431 kernel you mentioned. Sure enough, the sound driver works. But alas, that kernel doesn't have the ath9k driver I need for my wifi.
How did you solve that problem? Or do you use the wifi card?

hp compaq cq60-615dx no sound device
My new compaq presario doesn't show any sound cards after bootup with Puppy 431. Yet the dmesg log shows that it identified a conexant card and loaded the snd_hda_intel driver and other snd support drivers. But trying to run alsamixer reports no sound device. aplay -l shows no sound cards found. Und...
