Hi
I got the same result when booting from a USB drive on a Dell Inspiro 2200 laptop (v old) - I assumed it was a general incompatibility, but now see it may have been a a memory problem - will try some different loading methods, and report back.

Had same problem on my Dell. Try 2 things 1. Startup without the vga plugged in, then plug it in, then restart the x server (from the menu / shutdown button) 2. Startup with the vga cable plugged, it should run the xwindows wizard again, try various ones. I didn't need any other settings any where e...
