I thought that synching really did not matter with usb sticks anymore. Is it with other media that there is a problem? I have 12 older student computers at work with arch linux, windowmaker and autofs logging in via rdesktop to a windows terminal server 2003. All students have different usb sticks a...

Are you saying that automount in Puppy will conflict with the autofs files if it is installed via a DotPup? Could not one then uninstall the automount in Puppy and reinstall autofs via a DotPup? Or is automount part of the fabric of Puppy in such a way as to make the installation of autofs impossibl...

Pardon my ignorance about this simple automounter script as I know nothing at all about programming or writing scripts. But I have been wondering for some time why the programming experts who write DotPups etc. have not decided to write a DotPup for something like autofs - a very good and popular (U...

Mylon2202 - Some further questions re usb redirection in rdesktop. 1. Are you logging in to a windows server? 2. I always thought linux could not talk to windows without samba because of the different file systems. My usb drive is formatted in FAT. Should windows be able to see this from the linux t...

Thanks for the tip mylon2202 about -r option with the usb in rdesktop. However I tried that option (-r disk:usb=/dev/sda1 [where my usb stick is located]) but it does not work. Windows explorer shows a network usb entry called usb under my computer but when I click it no files show up, just empty. A...

How can I install an automounter into puppy?
I would very much like to use puppy 2.01 on some student terminals to log in via rdesktop to a windows terminal server. But the students need access to their usb sticks from the terminal server window. This means I need samba server operating and an automounter that is able to mount and unmount diff...

Re aspects to Samba. 1. No problems here as I said - Linneighborhood working well. 2. This is what I want to do. For puppy to be useful for my purposes I have to be able to do this. It should be easy if samba is installed. But I suspect it is not or whatever is installed in puupy is muted in some wa...

How do I save sound volume settings in xtmix?
With xtmix's normal settings my sound is very faint. When I increase the volume control to maximum everything is fine. But xtmix does not hold these settings on reboot. It defaults back to the same original setting. Is there anyway to change the default settings of xtmix so that sound volume is alwa...

Is Samba installed in Puppy?
Can anyone tell me whether samba is installed on puppy? I know smb is installed via linneighborhood. But I am talking about full samba. And it does not look like it is installed. I see samba listed in packages.txt but do not know how to install it as pupget only lists packages not on the live cd. I ...

Thanks Ian for the info. It looks like the sb module simply cant use the DMA 5, 6 or 7 for some reason. Sound still seems to work ok, but it is probably just 8 bit. Can you set dma channels manually for modules to use? Another problem with sound has arisen - different pc. I now have puppy loaded on ...
