01micko--Thank you. I had that SFS loaded but I still show qt as a missing dependency. Nonetheless, I was able to get SpiderOak working, so I am happy for now. Next question: I have installed py-qt, but it is quite massive. I have seen several SFS files for it. Which one is recommended for Slacko5.7...

Thanks Mavrothal. However the mystery deepens (for me). I am confused by the options for installing qt. There are several SFS files and pets. What is the preferred one for Slacko 5.7? It is required for several programs I need: Bitmessage, Anki, SpiderOak, and bitcoin-qt. I have the first two working...

Thank you gentlemen. I had both sfs files and now deleted 5.7 as I do have PAE. ruwoof, I believe the advantage of PAE will show up with programs running large data sets, not large programs themselves. An example would be Bitcoin-qt. Which brings me to my next question. I am thrilled that I have bee...

Greetings all, and thanks to all those who participated in making Slacko 5.7 such a wonderful OS. I have been absent from puppy land for about two years now, but am happy to see that things have been progressing nicely. I have spent much of the last week reacquainting with puppy and think I have mad...

You are welcome Aitch! I sent several emails requesting an invite since first reading your post, and only this past week received a reply. I have no idea what their criteria or schedule is for new invites but they seem to be taking their time so as not to grow too fast. However with that said, now t...

Thanks Aitch! I I have been following Diaspora since you first posted this out of curiosity. I signed up on their mailing list and just last week got an invite. They are currently in alpha and sound ready to go beta very soon. It is quite usable as far as I can see at this point. If you don't alread...

Wow - thanks aitch! I forgot that it was through reading that link that I first learned of Diaspora. I have been following it since then out of curiosity. I signed up on their mailing list and just last week got an invite. They are currently in alpha and sound ready to go beta very soon. It is quite...

Facebook alternative
I am not a facebook fan, but if you like that sort of thing you should check out Diaspora. It is in alpha at the moment but is quite serviceable. As I understand it is an open source project with a distributed architecture that preserves your privacy and ownership of your data. Let me know what you ...

5.2.8 mouse/keyboard wizard
Just found what may be a bug. I use the Dvorak keyboard set up and used to use the keyboard switcher in the firewall utility in the sys-tray, but understand that that has been removed. My wife needed to use my computer and I used the mouse/keyboard wizard to switch to US international, but it did no...

Sylpheed update?
Thanks Playdayz.
Just one more question - can I just instal the .pet or, do I need to uninstall the existing Sylpheed first, also will it retain my acct data. Sorry, I guess that is two questions

Sylpheed update?
I am loving 5.2.8 and the instant update seems to be working fine. Sylpheed is notifying of an update 3.1.2. Should I do it? Is there a .pet? Thanks folks for all your great work!

Looks like great work guys! I would just like clarification on one point; Does the tool ( Menu > Setup > Remove built in packages) actually remove packages from the save file or only hide them from the user? If so it would seem to make Woof obsolete (for me at least)! Thanks to all for all the hard ...

Feature request? - multiple wallpapers
Zigbert,
I love this app! I note however that dude replaces Jwm settings. I had followed hairywill's instructions posted elsewhere for having a different wallpaper for each desktop. Is this possible with dude, or might it be included in the future? Just hoping
Grace & peace,
Chris

different desktop wallpapers with pwidgets?
I really appreciate pwidgets2.3 on 5.10.003. I have also installed extras-2.2.4 and dude 0.4. When I follow the directions at :http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=225938&sid=178c45a1ffb753cbaf3c08726fa77547 I loose my widgets. Is there any way around this? It seems that I should be ...

5.1.1 breaks modem
Yes, I am very happy with 5.10.003. I just need to get the hang of remastering so I can make a striped down version. Sounds like it should be easy - just use the remove built-ins.pet and the remaster tool in puppy control center, but the CD's I produce all go to kernel panic. I just keep plugging al...
