With usns when you click connect the gui goes away and youre left wondering did something happen.
Little popup saying connected or finished might be good.

Using usns on my laptop I get wifi not working.
But if I try sns I get the ssid list and I can connect.

The yumi ubuntu append line points to an isolinux file.
You could try changing the yumi xenial append line to
APPEND /multiboot/xenialpup64-7.5-uefi/isolinux.bin

You could try copying the sfs to the root of your drive

The save file works ok for me on fat32 called upupbbsave using unencrypted.
I did notice that to make an unencrypted savefile you have to select yes when it says do you want encryption.

If you look in /boot/initrd-tree you could check the install_specs match your installation. Maybe copy the Q_ID to your xerus64-8.3 folder though it shouldnt need it.
