FWIW, phpBB is pretty simple to install by hand. I think you might need to create a mysql database and user for it first, but otherwise it's pretty basic. And the website control panel thing usually has a mysql tool. Yes I've installed phpbb before on another server using putty, But my server host ...

Cplater, the last time I tried the Snack dotpup, I think it was missing a library. It worked in earlier versions of Puppy but I think Barry removed something. Looks like snack is looking for 8.4 tcl and the new pup is 8.5. Put the following links using a rxvt terminal to make it think 8.5 libs are ...

You might want to look at the Snack sound toolkit and perhaps WaveSurfer and SndBite which uses it. I'm not sure if you want to append or mix two files but they have graphical sound editing tools. It is based on tcl/tk so puppy should run it fine. I've use the snack demo tools to do some light editi...

For the simplest widget you can try: #!/usr/bin/wish set MyText "1234 five six seven eight" label .lbl -textvariable MyText pack .lbl You can test some of this out by opening a terminal and typing "wish" and entering the commands. When the value of MyText changes the text in the ...

I use CF in my Ntavo thin client PCs. They originally came with an older version of Puppy and have since upgraded to 2.10. The universal installer works just fine and I burn them in a USB CF programmer from the boot CD. I format the flash as fat32 and it make it a totally painless process.

I've been looking for information on you problem and all I can find is that perhaps there is something amiss with the reiserfs. From what I can find, it seems reiser is the least stable of the 3 most popular linux file systems ( ext2, ext3 and reiser). I know puppy will work fine with Fat32, ext2 an...

Flash is correct on the MAC. The whole point is for a unique hardware ID. What I am not sure of is how you are trying to connect to Comcast. You may need to set your router to auto-dhcp so it will give you a local ip address and translate it to the one given out by Comcast. Then the cable box sees o...

You will most likely need to use the wizards to re-setup the ethernet and sound driver from the HD boot. After configuring the ALSA sound, open a terminal window and test it by playing a sound: aplay /usr/share/sounds/bark.au If you donot hear the bark, run alsamixer to set the volume and you should...

Mine looks like this for my second drive: title Puppy Linux2.10 rootnoverify (hd1,0) kernel (hd1,0)/puppy210/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 PMEDIA=idehd initrd (hd1,0)/puppy210/initrd.gz ...

I've seen that once before with my system when I had the pup_xxx.sfs in the wrong place with a manual install. I had put mine in the /puppy directory along with vmlinuz and initrd files. It needs to be at the "/" level although the other boot files can be in sub-directories. If it is there...

Looking at your configuration, it appears that you have two optical drives a dvd/rw and a cd-rom. Which one are you booting from? The error message seems to indicate that the boot is confused as to which drive it is booting off of.

pup_202.sfs becomes pup_210.sfs

You will still need to figure out your partitions but that is about it.

I've not had much luck using the installer to put puppy on a linux system and have done it manually, a process I am comfortable with. First you need a place to put the boot files. On my system, I have a FAT32 partition on the linux drive to make it easier to transfer files to Windows and Puppy is qu...

It was probably xwin fluxbox but it has been a while. I did exit and restart with xwin startfluxbox and that has brought up the dockapps. It killed the menues but I'm pretty sure I can fix that. I knew it had to be something simple but not obvious to me. Thanks.

Can't get fluxbox dockapps to load on startup.

I cannot get my dockapps to auto run in the puppy version of fluxbox. I can put the three I'm currently playing with in the .xinitrc file before invoking the window manager and it does work there but not when in the ~/.fluxbox/startup file or the /usr/X11R6/bin/startfluxbox file. As near as I can te...

I just keep the script in the my-applications directory. I'm playing around with things and it is easier find and edit when I want to make changes. You might want to check to see if the module is loaded with lsmod. It does not persist through a reboot like the /mnt directory. I've scripted my setup too but not as part of rc.local except for the modprobe nfs. No failures so far.
