Thank for the links. Maybe I don't need puppy kde. After reading some of those links musher0 provided. I found out some information. This one poster couldn't get Firefox to work on KDE, he was eventually able to install Firefox 3.6 on the KDE system. What I need to try is each version of the Agere S...

+1 for davec51 The 'root=/dev/ram0' was needed on the old 2.x puppies. Not needed in Version 3 and beyond. That kde puppy has usr_cram.fs? It must be old! Try a menu.lst stub as follows: title KDE Puppy Linux kernel (hd0,3)/pupkde/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 PMEDIA=idehd PDEV1=hda4 psubdir=pupkde initrd...

Is there a way to merge puppy KDE Linux with puppy 4.31....
Out of curiosity
Is there a way to merge puppy KDE Linux with puppy 4.31 without effecting operations?
I already have a frugal install of puppy 4.31 on my hard drive and it works.
The files on puppy Kde cd are usr_cram.fs, vmlinuz & image.gz

I know about the USB 2.0 pci card, I even have drivers for windows 98se. The Pci card crash. I don't know much about mainboards (aka motherboards). I couldn't see an identifiable mark on the mainboads. I think it might be Intel Board. It has an Intel 810E graphic chipset , Intel 82801AA PCI bridge &...

RetroTechGuy I have an old Compaq Business Desktop EP Pro Pentium III series that was given to me. The drive that went bad is an IDE 40gb drive from Maxtor. Which is one I bought awhile back. One bad things about the computer is the bios (It has been updated) doesn't recognize any hard drive over 40...

Where can I download teenpup with agere modem support?
Where can I download teenpup with agere modem support? The places to download have gone. I read the teenpup can support some winmodems. Also, since I can't burn it to cd, how do I do a frugal install*. I can use 98se or xp. I have a dual boot set up with xp sp3. Here is the versions I have on cd. Pu...

Sometimes I accidentally go to one of the MSNBC sites. When it happens I cringe because in almost all cases it locks the computer up tight. Then the computer won't boot. After a few occurrences of this I learned how to get it to work again. I have to reset the BIOS once or twice. I mention this bec...

Is my Hard drive dead?
I have used Redhat linux (Old version) & Puppy linuk Cfdisk to fix partition problems. I can't say for sure what caused my hard drive to go kuput. Thank goodness I have a older hard drive, that works & I had most things backed up. I lost some data. I don't want to throw the drive away becaus...

Re: Idea for a securer puppy Linux
Keep puppy like it is but add prompts and password for system or hard drive changes with an option not to be prompted for the same function or be able to disable it all together. We would be flooded with people saying "how do I turn this annoying crap off" :P As I said in the other thread...

Idea for a securer puppy Linux
I have been doing research and reading puppy Linux forums. Some people said puppy shouldn't be run as root and they need create a limited account. I have a better Idea, which I brought up in an old thread. Keep puppy like it is but add prompts and password for system or hard drive changes with an op...

Yes, I know this is an old thread. I have been doing research, now that I got a modem working in puppy frugal install. I want to do a full hard drive install of puppy but want to be able to protect it, without having to reinstall puppy if its gets infected and to protect my hard drive. My comment, f...

Thank you for your advice. The problem is, that last time I tried it. Windows didn't recognize any of the extended partitions after Linux is put on. Nortons Ghost and System commander can only handle a maxium of 3 partitions. Some how they temporally use the 4 partition without affecting the OS. I t...

A few questions about installing, running Puppy
Since there is no root password, how do you prevent stuff from being installed? I would like to know when stuff wants to install. I may do a full hard drive install someday. What is the best way to setup the partitions? My current setup is 98 se partiton one xp se partition two (Free DOS and Puppy L...

glad to hear you are up and running webworm98. I had an agere modem inbuilt into my laptop and I got it working with the smartlink (SL) modem driver. Not sure if it will work for you but it is worth a try. My modem is now non operational so I cannot test with the latest puppies. As regards some ban...

Why would you want to remove WinXP and keep Win98? If I get windows 7 or a mac, I wouldn't need an xp system. A lot of my software does not working in xp but works in 98se. Also, W7 ends support for 16bit applications. That is if you get a 64 bit system. However, I do like puppy Linux. I wish I cou...
