Re: problems with HD/SDD installer

Jemimahs Fluppy003 uses Chrome by default. Installs easily with bootflash method or from iso cd for older equipment. Thanks for the suggestion. Jemimah's a superwoman (except superwoman doesn't know how to make ISOs ;-p (just teasing Jemimah)) But as I said, installing other puppies goes without a ...

Re: Coming Soon: Fluppy for netbooks, widescreens, smallscreens

Ideas? Suggestions? What would you like to see in a netbook version of puppy? First of all, it's about time something like FLWM was made available for wide screens! (it's crazy how much real-estate is wasted vertically... you practically have little slot openings in your windows now the way program...

problems with HD/SDD installer

Do you guys all run this from a USB stick? I haven't tried the firefox version, but in the seamonkey version it wouldn't install to my eeePC's SSD (900sd) . (...and the installer also insisted that the newly created ext3 partition was a ext4, don't know if that had anything to do with it). So, befor...

Quirky 1.2 now has a new one called SNS (simple networking system) I think. It's simple. It connects. It works. My eeePC WiFi interface was auto-detected and autoconfigured. No guesswork, no fuss with profiles. Exactly what we needed. :-) Edit: as a postscript, pwireless2 in puppeee works great!

HD/SDD installer, battery monitor, browser

Thanks soooo much for the SNS! This was needed for such a long time and it connects great! A couple of points: 1. the installer doesn't seem to be able to create a workable install when installing to hard disk (I've installed pupy onto that machine several times before, so I think I'm doing it right...

Forgive my ignorance, but why is puppy series so far behind in wireless? All the major distros now auto-detect the chipset/card and auto-configure it. Using the old was a nightmare for beginners (I am sure you guys don't develop Linux only for geeks, but wish it to go more mainstream), and replacing...

BETTER WIFI detection & management

I was wondering if there is any way to give puppy better hardware detection and automatic configuration. I haven't been with Linux for long - just a couple of years, and am coming over from Mint-Ubuntu. I've been revisiting Puppy every now and then to see if it will autodetect my wifi and configure ...

eeePC 900SD
Would not allow to add a profile for a hidden SSID on wifi.
Pretty slow on this machine (celeron 800MH, 512MB, 8GB SSD) - I guess this is as stated, better for Atom or better.

could you please delete this one post. when I went to "edit" (NOT "quote"), it created a duplicate post instead of replacing the existing one... and I don't see a "delete" button anywhere.

Side Note on the topic of Centrino

My post about Centrino wifi devices not being "integrated" related very specifically to the popular perception that wifi devices are physically incorporated within products branded "Centrino", which is 100% incorrect. Intel wifi chipsets may, indeed, be optimised to operate with...

Instead of slowing down the connect, you can use the "-w" (wait) switch with wpa_supplicant. (see the links I posted earlier)

Re: I also have this problem

I also have had lots of trouble with WPA and an Intel 3945 laptop. Googling around, it seems like there's a known problem with the iwl3945 driver and hardware scanning. Lots of people using other linux distributions recommend adding options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1 to /etc/modprobe.conf. But my mo...

OK, thanks for that. I think you're missing the POINT of this thread. I'm NOT looking for help with ONLY my installation, but a more widespread fix for all, so ALL can enjoy puppy, including the 15-25% of users who may be seeing this bug. Read the other above post regarding other versions, which won...

WPA_SUPPLICANT

I found extensive instructions on how to integrate this, but I'm no programmer and can't to it myself. see this address for info (it's too long to post here) thinkwiki.org/wiki/Wpa_supplicant and this is the author's page, Jouni Malinen, with an intelligent breakdown and discussion hostap.epitest.fi...

Works for me, but not for you? My wpa keys are 10 to 14 letters or letter digit combinations, no caps. I have a mix of lowercase and uppercase (just one) and numbers, as my isp had recommended to me. (I hope it's not converting everything to lowercase, cause its not supposed to do that). And my set...

Just tried 4.3.1 on my neighbors Tosh. Satellite with 3945 abg. had to scan network twice; but it found wpa in a few seconds, no problem. Yup... have a satellite too... core2duo... scans and finds networks just fine. But I already mentioned that. Puppy does NOT connect using WPA though. My laptop c...

Tried 4.3.1 on a ideapad s10 with intel wireless....doesn't work at all. Really need to find out exactly which card, drivers, your laptop uses. lspci reports that it is an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 (ABG) Like I said, it really doesn't get more common than that. I'm not installing any drivers... I'm r...

Re: [SOLVED]

Problem Solved!! My router was set to a 128-bit WEP encryption which required A 13 digit key to be entered. I changed my encryption to 64-bit WEP which requires a 10 digit Hexadecimal key and it fixed my problem. Guess im gonna have to stick to connections that have 64 bit encryptions only. thanks ...
