This project appears to be done. System its now performing very well. There were a couple quirks at the end, but I fixed them. CPU monitor in the tray gave a boot dialogue that said it wouldn't work on the system. No big deal, I removed it from start up. shut down hang... changed a boot parameter......

Alrighty... I scavenged and installed an old Dell usb keyboard that looks actually from about the same time period as the new tower, and boom, presto... no more problems. All the back slash stuff is gone.

Be back later with the last couple quirks, but I think I'm nearly done with this.

After you mentioned the updater for Palemoon, I remembered that I hadn't updated it because it was recent, version 25. I went ahead and updated it, and it seemed like the performance was pretty good. I'll get my friend to test it and report back.
