Have you a sse only CPU? Try palemoon for sse: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=953121#953121 Greetings Watchdog, I looked up SSE and saw that it related to PIII architecture, and I do have a 1gig PIII Coppermine, so I gave it a go, and wallah! I'm posting from Palemoon now. Thank y...

Hi Eathray, I'm guessing that the issue is glib, but it's kinda a big deal to upgrade glib. . Which got me thinking. I don't believe Palemoon and the work of watchdog and ac2011 have previously been brought to your attention. See http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=907538#907538 , and ...

This project appears to be done. System its now performing very well. There were a couple quirks at the end, but I fixed them. CPU monitor in the tray gave a boot dialogue that said it wouldn't work on the system. No big deal, I removed it from start up. shut down hang... changed a boot parameter......

Alrighty... I scavenged and installed an old Dell usb keyboard that looks actually from about the same time period as the new tower, and boom, presto... no more problems. All the back slash stuff is gone.

Be back later with the last couple quirks, but I think I'm nearly done with this.

UPDATE I set up my friend's system and all the locking up and crashing issues seem to be gone. Clearly the old tower was dying, I suppose the motherboard or on-board graphics. Everything seems to perform. However, there is a keyboard quirk that I could use some help with. The new Optiplex tower doe...

Mike, Okay I scavenged him a Dell Optiplex 64bit 3ghz dual-core off of my local Craigslist... a bit of a drive from the country to feed a university kid a quick 20 bucks, and those city people are nuts on the road, but I'm back home in the woods where I belong. I might need some of my home-brewed ci...

Yeah Mike, I'm feeling like it must be that way. It must be the motherboard or on-board graphics. That stuff gets quirky with heat issues like the hard-reboots and crashes that my friend has been dealing with. There's a couple cheap towers on my local Craigslist that would probably do my friend just...

Hey Mikes :) Well, when I originally switched him after he first killed Windows quite a few years ago, I started him off with Fatdog64-520b, which actually lasted for him a good long while, and so it has been in my mind that his goofy nVidia set up (intended to be some kind of big bad entertainment ...

Okay, I have taken my friend's machine retro and backed him up to Fatdog64-521. It crashed and complained until I finally got the deprecated nVidia driver installed and it stopped complaining finally and didn't balk once. It now appears to be stable, albeit... I have yet to update the browsers and t...

Okay well... bad news.

I just checked in on my friend and his system crashed and is now broken so as not to load.

Current thought... he can't run a newer puppy.

machine is an HP Pavilion m7750n dual core 64

I am thinking now of backing him up to a 500 series 64bit puppy.

suggestions?

Hi Mike and Mike LOL, I did some testing on my friend's machine yesterday, and I kinda eliminated flash from my list of suspects. Older java (1.7x instead of 1.8x)... that's a maybe... My big suspicion at the moment however is that web developers out there have lost their minds in a syrup of glutton...

After a little testing, it seems that Palemoon does indeed ocasionally have problems for him. It seems it crashed at least 3 times with youtube vids. He has the latest Flash 25... Palemoon updated... I stuck Seamonkey on there a little while ago and asked him to test it. I've seen Seamonkey in the p...

I've been playing with this version of portable SeaMonkey I found, ..... Portable SeaMonkey 2.20 seems to have solved most or all of my problems thus far.. Hi Eathray - was there a reason why you settled on the 2.20 version? I see at Shinobars site there are several newer versions. One of my laptop...

Mike,

After you mentioned the updater for Palemoon, I remembered that I hadn't updated it because it was recent, version 25. I went ahead and updated it, and it seemed like the performance was pretty good. I'll get my friend to test it and report back.

Good Morning, I opened Firefox on my friend's computer via the terminal so that I could get some error data. This is what came up: root# firefox (firefox:12760): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::sm-connect after class was initialised (firefox:12760): GLib-GObject-WARNIN...
