slacko 6.9.6.4 remaster and multisession problems

My slacko 6.9.6.4 (32 bit) remaster will not boot, reporting: "boot: Could not find kernel image: vesamenu.c32" I am locked out of the 64-bit path because my printer, a Brother, only has 32-bit Linux drivers. Also, there seems to be a problem with saving to a multisession DVD, in that the ...

Multisession Save

The idea here is to take a Puppy DVD to an arbitrary PC station, run and configure Firefox, and save the updated system on the DVD, all without using the PC hard drive. (These stations have no hard drive.) Most Puppy versions will simply recover the updated system transparently on the next boot, but...

After yet another day of trial-and-error, I have further insight: 1. Although the last part of the Fatdog64 booting information goes by on the screen quite quickly indeed, I believe I saw the save files being loaded. If so, that part was working as expected. 2. By mounting the DVD and examining the ...

RandSec, did you read the post by jamesbond to which gcmartin was referring? As I understand what jamesbond says in that post, Fatdog 600 might be just what you're asking for. Why don't you give it a try and let us know? Of course I read I read this whole thread before posting. I also read http://d...

The Technology Feat introduced to make save-session simpler to understand and take less space. BTW, if I didn't already, I want to say now: "You handling of the save-session on Live media the same way as handling it on HDDs is BRILLIANT!" I wish the rest of the Puppy development community...

Fatdog64 Live DVD Mode

Please excuse me in advance, I have just spent 2 days working on Fatdog64 with only limited success and am tired. I have run various forms of Puppy all day every day for several years. I do this from DVD's on systems with no hard drive. I have ample reasons for using DVD's, but this is neither the t...

Malware Comments and Lighthouse64 Discussions

Sorry, but I think you are way off base here. I respect all that each has reported on viruses, here. But this is about LH64 versus in-depth virus discussion. And, thus far, I am not aware of any reports where LH64 has been influenced by malware. In the old days, malware commonly exposed itself and w...

Re: Some Issues

For me the merit's of the argument alone should be sufficient to decide whether the person is worth listening to or not. I agree, and am willing to be judged at that level. There is, however, a deeper level: One may not even have to make the argument. The facts are what they are, and do not need my...

Re: Some Issues

RandSec Is there any reason you are opting to go with DVD media over another form of removable media? I think so, yes. It may or may not help to give some of my background, and there is a lot on my site: http://www.ciphersbyritter.com I am basically retired, but even 10 years ago I was C programmin...

Re: Some Issues

I'm confused here, is that the command Pburn generated or your own? I just use what Pburn gives and usually do a full erase if I recall. What you see is what I see, so I was as confused as you. This is the log referenced by Pburn when it returns fail. I assume that Pburn functions by generating com...

more issues

A few days ago our audio-visual Windows PC died in the middle of showing a DVD, apparently a motherboard fail. It was past time to move on anyway. So I have a new box and have been swapping things in and out to get our entertainment back up. Eventually we will need to get Windows up so we can stream...

Some Issues

Hi tazoc! 1. This is an issue I first noticed in 5.12: Pburn fails when commanded to erase a DVD. That means I have to boot a 32-bit Puppy just to erase discs. Here are the error log results from my earlier comment: (first, selecting a complete blank) Pburn version 3.3.4 ############################...

Re: Not feeling well and very

Hi TaZoC! You should know that others consider your work impressive and beneficial. It will be a great loss if you cannot continue. The screensaver graphics are surprisingly important in Lighthouse 64. I know someone can just pick those up if desired, but as part of the package it argues that the op...

Before I voice my usual mindless objections, perhaps you could describe what you hope to solve: What weakness exists, and how would a login control it?

Lighthouse 64 5.14.2 Beta 4

Just a quick comment to note that Graphic / XSane image scanner complains about running as ROOT: "that really is DANGEROUS!" Perhaps overly dramatic, but I guess XSane probably ought to come up in spot. And now that the topic comes up, we need a summary of the rules for spot, and how to do...

Lighthouse 64 5.14.2 Beta 4

I love Lighthouse 64, and am trying to make it do what I need. There are issues: First, this is an i3 "thin client" DVD-load desktop, now (!) with an HD 6570 video card, and 8GB RAM. Having a lot of RAM obviously is helpful in diskless systems. The system basically works great, and the 3D ...

Early Comments

I have successfully installed Lighthouse64 5.14b4 on LiveDVD for three i3 systems, one of which has a 6xxx-series video card, which now works with Puppy for the first time. Hooray! One of the major advances of Lighthouse 64 is the complex and beautiful screen saver technology. It reminds us that com...

Lighthouse 64 5.12

I love Lighthouse64 5.12 B1, but some things are just not working, and others are strange. I have several i3 boxes I built for the house, one with 8GB RAM, and I run Puppies as thin-client (DVD-load) systems. 2 systems also have different AMD video cards. 2 or 3 times I have experienced bringing up ...

LPS v Puppy

I think Puppy is basically better for normal user security (like online banking) than LPS. For one thing, LPS does not (in the version I tried) have an ability to update the boot disc with browser patches. (Puppy supports DVD updates as new "sessions" on a multi-session boot DVD.) Not allo...
