Bladehunter, thanks for making your iso available. I tried it on the Dell 510m (i855) and an old box with i815 graphics. Re: 1.0.3 with framebuffer support, for NeoMagic/i810 graphi
I've put together an iso based on puppy-1.0.3 that has a framebuffer enabled kernel and X server to suit. As I have limited bandwidth I'd like to hear from a handful of people interested in testing, particularly those with Dell laptops with the NeoMagic chipset and those with a i810 chipset. Leave ...

Re: Framebuffer in Puppy
First off, many thanks, Barry, for making the Xi810 driver available for testing. Now, for my experiences with the driver. I had no problem in running the driver, just did the following: # gunzip Xi810.gz # cp Xi810 /usr/X11R6/bin/ # cd /usr/X11R6/bin/ # mv X X-vesa [I like to back these things up ;...

Barry, how did you get Xvesa to work with Puppy?
Barry, please let me give you a little background to my question first. As I'm sure you're aware, Xvesa , and therefore Puppy, often doesn't work correctly with Intel's i810-family of graphics chips (these chips are quite usual in modern PCs and especially in laptops as they are cheaper and more pow...

The problem with these laptops are the intel graphics and that the video shares RAM memory, in some cases a fair amount. The bios is usually preset for the ram shared and is not able to be changed. Actually this is not entirely correct. As you say, the shared video RAM in laptops with i810 graphics...

papaschtroumpf, I think we share the same problem. Your Dell latitude d505 and my Dell Inspiron 510m use the same graphics chipset. Please see the message http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?p=2381#2381 which is my analysis of the problem. Puppy runs 'Xvesa -listmodes' in a script to determine...

How can I force the use of syslinux 3.08 on my usb flash key?
Download http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/b ... .08.tar.gz and use the syslinux executable from this package on your usb flash key.
That's how I did it

I had the same symptom as chadauld on my Dell Inspiron 510m laptop, so I'm happy to report that syslinux 3.08 is the first version that boots a flash pen drive (128MB Cruzer mini) correctly on this PC :) Now if I could just get a kdrive server that will give me 1024x768x16 graphics (the laptop has i...

Is there an Xi810 kdriver server available for testing?
Has anyone compiled an Xi810 kdriver server for Puppy or know where I can get one? Puppy's Xvesa server doesn't get along too well with the Dell Inspiron 510m laptop models that use the 855GME graphics chip (one of the Intel i810 family). It seems that the i810 graphics chips and their derivatives a...

I read that Barry, due to space limitations, limited video support to the Xvesa kdriver server. I can understand that, after all, it does seem to work on a lot of machines (even if it doesn't on the Dell 510m and many other PCs with the i810-graphics chipset family) :( What surprised me most though ...

Regarding what I wrote earlier about the poor resolution (640x480x16 TrueColor) when running Puppy on a Dell Inspiron 510m with a 1024x768 screen, I should probably add that I can run Kanotix linux (works well on laptops and which I can highly recommend) in the highest resolution (1024x768x24 TrueCo...

I've been struggling with this issue myself for some time now. What I've learned is that the problem with Puppy and the Intel i810 graphics chipset family appears to stem from Xvesa (X links to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xvesa) mistakenly reporting too little graphics memory with certain BIOSes. The i810 chipse...
