After power failure I can't boot up anymore
(I hope I have hit the right forum for my problem, if not, please excuse) I use a frugal install on harddisk on my old laptop with 192MB RAM for years. Now I have had a power failure with puppy linux v4.21 up. If I fire up puppy now, it starts as usually, but doesn't start the gui and shows an emerg...

pidgin v2.6.1 pet file
Proudly announcing the new version of Pidgin v2.6.1 I have built today. You can get it here from Rapidshare. My homepage is up2date. Make shure, /etc/ld.so.conf contains /usr/local/lib before installing. You need to deinstall the old version, of course. Currently OTR seems to refuse working with thi...

Serious error when unmounting
While trying to get the new pidgin running, I encountered a serious error when unmounting my pidgin sfs file. After reboot, the gui does not build properly. It shows an empty background, has just the clock and the menues. Rebooting does not work. Howto fix: Open a console from the top menue, this sh...

Thank you all for the input. I am happy to hear that this pet is useful. @Gedrean, mikeb and Vyse: Interesting that some people don't have /usr/local/lib at their library search path I have. Check /etc/ld.so.conf and if you don't have it you can add it right after the line /usr/lib. Running ldconfig...

Pidgin-2.5.8 sfs file with OTR plugin
To save save-file space, I decided to create a sfs file from pidgin-2.5.8 and OTR with its dependencies. If you already use my pidgin/pidgin-otr pets, then you have to deinstall those first: pidgin-2.5.8 pidgin-otr-3.2.0 and its dependencies: glib-2.20.4 libgcrypt-1.4.4 libgpg-error-1.7 libotr-3.2.0...

I found the error why there is no icon at the internet menue for pidgin. I have a typo at the file /usr/local/share/applications/pidgin.desktop It says Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/pidgin.xpm which is wrong and should be Icon=/usr/local/share/pixmaps/pidgin/pidgin.xpm You can adjust this error you...

Have you solved your contacts problem meanwhile? My experience is, that if you have a fresh pidgin install or ~/.purple or ~/.purple/blist.xml does not exist, your contacts is downloaded from ICQ servers. Take a look at the file ~/.purple/blist.xml - it should be filled with all your contacts. Maybe...

I have tried /usr/local as prefix and this works fine. The only thing that hinders me to compile pidgin-otr-3.2.0 is that it requires glib >=2.6 which is not the case. What a pity. Changing glib would need to recompile everything, wouldn't it? So creating this pet package currently is impossible. BT...

Ok, thank you, I can work with this information so far. Now I have another question. I am working on creating a pet file, pidgin-otr-3.2.0 Pidgin-otr depends on libotr-3.2.0 and libotr has the following dependencies: At least libgpg-error-1.0 and libcrypt-1.2.0, so I attempt to use the following ver...

Thanks, thought dependencies would also hit other pet packages. Now the next question. If I'd build a pet package which has dependencies, can I download the nescessary files and put them into my DESTDIR to the corresponding place and build the pet package with them? Or is this dangerous and can prod...

Dependencies checking
I think I was lucky in creating my first pet file. When installing there is no missing dependency puppy yells about.
But what if there was? I haven't found a good Howto which tell's about that. Can someone point me to it, please?

Just in the case, someone has configured to monitor this thread (which I haven't noticed before) and hasn't noticed my posting, yet, then take a look at Pidgin pet file for v4.2.1.
I am running Pidgin based on sources 2.5.4 with protocol sources of 2.5.6 and it is working properly!
