No on Presario 2100
Latest Puppy - failed to boot on a Compaq Presaio 2100 laptop (AMD Athalon 2800+, 512Mb). It got as far as warning that it wouldn't write pup001, let me hit return, then the fan started racing, and that was all she wrote. This isn't a big deal to me and I don't expect to expend any energy working ou...

If you're serious about 4k interrupts/sec, then you really do want to look at an RTOS. You'd be shocked and amazed by the cost of a developer's package for most of them. $10,000 / person is typical. That's where I started looking, and I ran screaming. I didn't want to mess with DOS, because I know ...

taking the clock?
This book has been updated but the older version is still available for free online: http://www.xml.com/ldd/chapter/book/index.html Obviously, some of the details may be obsolete now, but the book was written for the 2.4.XX kernel series, so it'll probably be fine for you... You can browse the book...

Should I use x86 and Puppy for a control application?
Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but... I've got a project (unrelated to the one I've been writing about elsewhere) that involves using a small embedded x86 processor to control the automation of a room. The way I've been thinking of doing this is installing DOS, hooking interrupts (I n...

Does Puppy run with both processers in dual CPU?
I have a dual processor AMD box. It runs Windows, but I'm sick of the update hassles and occasional bit rot. But I don't want one CPU to go idle. Will Puppy use both?
I tried installing , just as an experiment, and it came up ok, but I couldn't tell if I was getting both CPUs...

What hardware for low power network server?
I figure some folk here have to me small PC/nano PC/low power consumption types, so I'm looking for suggestions. I need a box to do two things. OK. Three things. Um. Among the various and diverse things I want are... 1. Run slimserver, an inefficient memory pig of a perl application. I'm given to un...

Will Puppy make a Norhtec hyperclient into network server?
Anyone know if Puppy will run on a Norhtec hyperclient? (256m memory, 800Mhz processor) http://www.norhtec.com/products/hc/index.html Any problem running Samba? I want this box to make an external USB disk shared to all my windows systems. (Does it come with samba?) Can Puppy work as a windows print...

>You say windows is unstable? What version and what is it doing? You getting errors, if so what are they? Bluescreens a few times a day. The last one was in hal.dll on boot; that's not good. The box has been running 24x7 for weeks and I've owned it for years, and I think it's just old. It was having...

Puppy doesn't seem to recognize dual-processor AMD
The machine is a dual processor AMD. I get the impression it doesn't know how to use the 2nd processor? It's dual video. It came up on the default (crummy) builtin video; is there some way to get it to use the video card? (Only the simpler X package worked; maybe I'd need the more advanced one worki...
