No, I'm not using the retro version. What's the difference, please? I can't find any explanation on the site. Is 4.2 retro likely to be better than 4.1.2 standard, which seems to be no problem? I don't really want to go through the hassle of another large download and burn unless there's likely to b...

Just looking again on my desktop PC, I notice that you had mount.ss - the . didn't show up on my laptop screen and I didn't include it - does that make a difference? rootfs on / type rootfs (rw) /dev/sda2 on /initrd/mnt/dev_save type fuseblk (rw,noatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,blksize=4096) /dev/loop1 ...

Thanks, Bruce. I still can't see any effect from 420.sfs, and after exchanging PMs with Béèm I've decided to revert to 4.2.1 which was more stable on my system. I only use Puppy for web browsing - I still need Windows for other tasks - and that works perfectly well in 4.1.2, though I'll miss the des...

Thanks, all. I think I'm more confused now... It's sounding like I should delete my sfs file and reinstall, but I don't really want to do that, and in any case my CD drive was still mounted when I tried pfix=ram. I don't think a swap file is going to help much, because the HDD is old and slow; there...

4.2 CD won't unmount; 4.1.2 CD will
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find it. I'm running Puppy on an 8 year old laptop with only 128 Mb of RAM. When I run 4.1.2 it loads completely into RAM and the CD drive is unmounted - I can remove the CD at any time. With 4.2, however, the CD has a mount symbol and it can't be unm...
